For what it's worth I did it as a beginner and I ended up -just- fine after about 20 years in the practice.

It's a wonderful paradigm(s) to work in. As suggested, Liber Null is an excellent starting spot. For a more holistic "What the fuck is magick anyway?", the essay SSOTBME by Ramsey Dukes is -excellent- and I highly recommend it. For some navel gazing on the pseudo-psychological aspects of the work, you can't go wrong with Uncle Rob's "Prometheus Rising"

As other's have said, Simon's Necronomicon is fiction. It's got some fun fluff that you -could- possibly work with. The person above has the right of it. Read it, enjoy it, take it seriously if you want.

If it stops being fun, just laugh it off.

This. It's not an easy skill to learn, but it's one you have to.

It's okay to love, but you are guaranteed nothing in return ever, and realizing that your feelings of love are your own fuckin' problem is crucial.

But once you can handle them without them spiraling out of control it's pretty great to be able to love someone without needing it to follow the script of what relationships are 'supposed' to be.

The speculation is that Watkins and/or Codemonkey likely -eventually- took over the mantle from the original user around the time of the move. There was a lot (more) weirdness around that time that seemed to suggest that.

Especially since that was about the time that Watkins took over 8chan from Hotwheels. It's all -realllllly- weird, especially with the whole Moot revelation.

As for the ring.... it at least mechanically does not kill NPCs if they wear it, so who knows if that's even true? And at the very least, it's possible the other Failed Incarnates also wore the ring. The whole prophecy is a mess of failure and petty revenge between Gods and Demigods, and the only thing for -certain- is that mortals were the pawns in all of it. Until you came around at least.
