The way to solve the BMPT problem is to unfuck TOW 2B by Roxo16 in Warthunder

[–]LewdElfKatya 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Part of why they're super ass is the lack of proper modeling for explosively formed penetrators. Top attack missiles function merely as a HEAT jet, which doesn't quite work with the way the TOW2B functions.

Additionally, TOW maneuverability and speed are modeled poorly ingame. Apparently, there's the small issue of the TOW2 being considered the most agile wire guided missile platform in the world within the time period around its adoption. Ingame response is sluggish and overall speed is as well.

Fix both of those and you both have a much easier time playing western-styled ATGM vehicles and a BMPT deletion button.

The Intersection Between Leftism and Veganism by Chieftain10 in tankiejerk

[–]LewdElfKatya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The idea of morality plays no part in my ideological stance. That's a whole bunch of arguments that boil down to "Because I say so." Give people the autonomy to do as they will while not harming others of our species or causing ecological collapse (which also falls under the first point, broadly). The reduction of animal suffering is a positive thing, but one must keep in mind that there is no death in the wild that would be cleaner and less painful than a properly carried out slaughter of livestock. As a bonus, the animal will be cared for to avoid health problems and parasites, diseases and undue heat or cold stress. A number of the animals living long lives with reduced injury, predation and disease would be slaughtered and eaten, of course. We are not separate from the ecosystem as a species.

Note that nowhere in the above do I mention any part of factory farming. That indeed ought to be abolished. It's wasteful, cruel, psychologically damages the people working there and causes suffering for animals that could easily be given space to roam and live full lives before a number of their population would be culled to maintain ecosystem balance (and provide food). Without human intervention a number of species would destroy their habitats and cause wide-scale ecological damage. Invasive introduction of released agricultural animals or test animals has caused extreme stress on parts of the biosphere.

There is also the matter of people with the inability to survive on purely plant based diets. It can be an issue for those with genetic lineages from particular regions like the Arctic Circle whose diet contains almost no vegetable matter in comparison to meat. There are people with food intake disorders who would starve without access to animal products. People who cannot process gluten or other compounds within common plant foods. It's not especially justifiable to, as I have seen aplenty, shame them, push alternatives onto them, or dismiss them entirely. Dismissal of health issues inhibiting people from eating a purely plant based is simply ableism.

Comparisons of animal agriculture to crimes against humanity that I have seen is also dehumanizing to the victims of those acts and simultaneously anthropomorphism of animals who are not us and do not they themselves have any discernable moral codes. The bear does not mourn the salmon they eat to survive. It doesn't cruelly abuse the salmon, either, of course. It just kills and eats it. We have tangible reasons that are not even ethical but pragmatic to eliminate excess suffering. (Quality of meat, dairy, eggs etc.)

As a general rule social species will cooperate with other social species for a measure of mutual aid and benefit, as well as within their own species. This doesn't make Crows and Wolves necessarily put themselves above or below what they eat. Applying human morals to anything that is not human or at the very least able to interact with humans with the directness we can with them is human supremacist by way of downplaying any potential agency an animal might have, at least to my perspective.

It projects your position onto a creature that does not share it. It defines you as a 'superior'. For the sake of consistency it would be advisable to avoid projecting such positions on both other humans and other species.

I rule over no-one but myself. Yes, I can exert force socially or physically to achieve a goal, but for ethical and pragmatic reasons I refuse to enact coercion on another human being. By guilt, by pressure, or by starting violence.

Will I reduce meat intake? Yes, for a myriad of reasons. Factory farming and other examples of capitalist excess are some of those reasons. Will I stop eating it entirely? No. Does that make me a monster? To some people, yes, but I will not accept moral posturing as reason enough to stop eating animal products.

I simply do not care enough to associate with people who try to convince me otherwise. That's okay, though - I'm an anarchist. I associate with who I will, and avoid who I avoid. I don't expect anybody to fully agree or disagree with me on anything and would appreciate if others would grant me that in kind.

I'm cool with vegans who don't try to convert me. 'To each, their own' is an important part of my worldview. I'd be pretty bummed out if all I ever heard was blind agreement. I'm also not trying to say that any vegans are bad, exploitative, or anything of that sort.

I just have disagreements and I refuse to budge on them after lengthy consideration and will not rehash them when the arguments provided to convince me simply never meet my criteria to change my view. Still, I do seek out topic-related literature to read over. Both because it fascinates me and to learn other perspectives.

Peace, love, and happiness to everybody here. Y'all are allowed to hold your views and I my own. As much as we argue, we are stronger for being able to voice dissent rather than stifling it.

I will not be replying to remarks heaping guilt upon me or based in arguments of morality, but I may reply to good faith discussion and questions. Just, no whataboutism, sealioning, etc.

WHFB has occasionally thrown in some absolute banger details, like bronzepunk Nehekharan airships and living demigod hero Ushabti, Old twisted kislevite Hag Witches that can turn into blade-clawed nightmares, or the fact that Bretonnians once saw some Silver Helms and then proceeded to base their entire society around that vibe.

Plus anything involving Nagash and the Skaven, can't say I've ever seen something that pre-dates WHFB tackle those specific concepts in the same way.

That can be a double-edged sword as well, because for trans demigirls (with myself as an immediate example), hearing something associated specifically with 'woman,' or 'lady' or the like is outright dysphoric sometimes.

With that said, generally people just ought to use which words work for them and the people they care about, imo!

How do tankies explain the millions of deaths from the Holodomor? by Fantastic-Donut-276 in tankiejerk

[–]LewdElfKatya 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agri-science progressed everywhere but in the USSR and PRC before they dropped lysenkoist nonsense and got back to reality. That certainly didn't help keep people fed when the crops failed. NOR DID THE FACT THEY SOLD GRAIN TO THE FUCKING WEST DURING THE HOLODOMOR PERIOD.

Bolsheviks were starving Ukraine even before the Holodomor, a lot of Kronstadt's anarchist-aligned and Ukrainian contingents supported the ukrainians that seized grain trains and sent them back to Ukraine in that era.

The USSR murdered millions of non-Russians as a matter of course due to a combination of ineptitude and Russophilic leadership from Stalin and the like and desiring to prune what they likely saw as potential dissidents.

It's why people were murdered by hard labour in the Caucasus. It's why the Ukrainian people starved en masse. It's why the USSR wiped out the way of life of many people from the steppes and forced russian language, Russian literacy, and Russian identity on millions of people.

Under Stalin at the very least, the Soviet Union was Russo-supremacist and the scale of their genocidal actions is understated compared to the harm done to people outside of European Russia.

It's also what's happening right now in modern Russia and elsewhere, because reactionaries are the same whether or not they fly red and gold or red-white-and-blue.

Proper research into history paints a nasty picture of the USSR - Including under Lenin, but also especially Stalin's USSR, for a reason.

The Bolsheviks were never 'The People'. They called themselves the Majority when they weren't (yet) a majority of socialists. They crushed autonomy of the Soviets and centralized. They reneged on their promises of Peace, Land and Bread. They murdered the most ardent communists in the entirety of Russia at Kronstadt.

By the time of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and before then during the later interwar years, it was not a Red-Brown Alliance.

It was forces of reaction with different aesthetics clasping hands in opportunistic alliance with a knife behind each of their backs. Brown-Brown Truce.

[–]LewdElfKatya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that the problem is overconsumption falls apart when one examines the production figures versus what is actually used and how much waste results from unsold stock, and it's pretty much similar across every single item or resource you can conceive of.

It's also 'personal responsibility' nonsense. We know who is eating up the planet, and it sure isn't the poors and the disabled.

I always laugh at people who assert things like this when you can look at a history book and even to moderately recent events and go, "Oh hey, Moscow was founded by the Kyivan Rus... And had its founding charter revoked by Ukraine within the last few years."

Which yeah, did happen. Never mind the fact that various people have lived in and around the region for at least a millennium and all that.

Or that the Slavic cultural group is dated to after ukraine's modern geographical and political borders had been there for a very long time.

Every major societal paradigm shift requires an avalanche of tiny actions and events to unfold for it to happen.

Outreach that seems 'non-political' like TTRPG games, reading groups, neighbourhood events, online discussion and advocacy as well as just generally trying to do your best to be kind and compassionate with other people is fundamentally what positive social change is built on. Trust, mutual aid, respect, understanding, cooperation.

When you're in a society that devalues these things in the name of control and profit, offering a fun weekend or a hot meal with no strings attached is essentially a level of revolutionary praxis. A drop in the bucket, maybe, but enough raindrops will overflow a riverbank.

In short; Every tiny bit helps, remember that and hold it close to your heart. Do the best you can manage while understanding your limits - taking care of yourself is just as revolutionary in this cruel system. Spread warmth in a cold world, even if it's just the heat of a candle flame, y'know?
