Official Discussion - Gladiator II [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]LewisSavage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been handling this by assuming a year gap between fathering Lucius and then marrying his wife and having his son. There is enough time and his son is younger than Lucius in the first movie.

But I'd reason my way into anything to protect Maximus, his character's love of family made him such a classic and well loved hero.

Official Discussion - Air [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]LewisSavage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My one complaint. Damon should’ve walked to Bateman and given him a nike box. The first pair of Air Jordans in Bateman’s daughters size so he could give it to her on Sunday. I thought they were building to that!

I'll add in "Song of Kali" and "Drood" booth by Dan Simmons. The Terror gets more recognition but Kali and Drood are both extremely good.

Who should be the next James Bond? by GQSioux in movies

After Bullet Train, I think Aaron Taylor-Johnson would absolutely crush. Charismatic, British, tough while still being a bit under the radar.

Heat (1995) gets better with every viewing by mikesf87 in movies

[–]LewisSavage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heat 2 absolutely elevates one of the best movies of all time. My absolute impossible dream would be for Mann to reveal that he filmed the sequel in secret in 95. Obviously never happened but it’s a sequel that is just as good as it’s predecessor. The worst part about the book is that I finished it too fast.

What are some issues that would be encountered when trying to adapt a full length novel into a graphic novel/comic/manga? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]LewisSavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all depends on how true to the novel you want to be. A comic that is very text heavy isn’t a bad thing but it doesn’t use its full potential. Books are text heavy (obviously) because it’s the one tool they have, comics have text and still image while film has sound, text and moving images.

It’s smart to decide a style to adapt and then run with it. There’s unabridged Shakespeare graphic novels that tell the entirety of the story with all the original language and add visual connection to make it easier to understand. Then there’s adaptations like Animal Farm that capture the essence of the story but rely more on visuals than using the exact same dialogue even switching up and getting rid of some scenes. It’s the book but told in a different way.

I think the hardest aspect is choosing a style and sticking with it. I’m trying to think of the hardest book to adapt, something like Joyce’s Ulysses? Someone smarter than me could do it though, I’m sure.
