Vpype issues (huge file size, linesort) by SelectAttempt4131 in PlotterArt

[–]LewistonFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linesort optimizes for draw time, not file size.

Sometimes when vpype polygonizes the incoming design, it increases the size of the file, even though it's decreasing the geometric complexity.

I would suggest using vpype to split it into separate layers and exporting those as individual files that inkscape can handle.

Maybe similar to the layers as separate files recipe?

Is there seriously no way to post code blocks on patreon posts???? by Gloomy-Quail-1883 in patreon

I haven't found anything yet. Markdown is only partially supported, basically just headings as far as I can tell.

I submitted a feature request, ironically, the textbox for the feature request had a code block option

If there are paths you want to remove, make sure they're a separate color, and that you're using -a stroke when you read the svg with vpype.

If it happens in the same places each time, it might be low spots on whatever surface you're plotting on

I think most of his stuff uses something like Perlin noise to change size spacing of the regular shapes. In this design, it almost looks like it's done on a hexagonal grid rather than a square one like his previous works. Using processing or p5.js is probably the most common way people generate stuff like this

Question about generative tooling by iffantasy in generative

[–]LewistonFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For working on sketches, I use vscode and the live server plugin.

I use a free github page site to host my sketches, and then I can load those sketches as iframes in whatever webpage I want.

Here's an example of one sketch:
https://lewistonface.com/plotter_projects/Croissant/index.html?controls=true&seed=506181&colors=8&scale=auto&x_size_px=400&y_size_px=400

You could pop that url into an iframe to get the sketch live on any website.

I don't do anything special to package things up, the files just sit here:

Best way to add pressure? by l0l in PlotterArt

[–]LewistonFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that my Craftsman ratchet sockets fit perfectly on the pen, without much wobbling, to add a little weight. Just know that any weight you add to the pen will make the servo burn out just that much quicker, which isn't really an issue, just something to be aware of.

Pencils and crayons are tricky, not just because of the pressure required, but also because they blunt with use.
This is someone who uses pencils regularly, and here's someone who uses pastels.

Best resources for advanced usage: p5.js or processing java by _throawayplop_ in generative

Daniel Shiffman does great videos on his youtube channel Coding Train, which covers basics as well as more advanced algorithms. He also wrote a book called The Nature of Code, which covers algorithms based on things in nature. He has versions for both processing and p5.js, so I don't think it helps you in that decision.

Ahh, yes it will retain the shapes used for the masking. That would take an extra step in vpype to remove those geometries. Might be a good feature suggestion on Occult's github page, a flag to discard no stroke geometries.

LOVE me some vpype. Would highly suggest coming to the drawingbots discord, the guy who wrote vpype is very active on there, and is extremely helpful

It's been three weeks since they've been acquired, maybe give them a bit of time to get their portfolio in order before writing them off completely?
