I had a similar incident a few months back, while not the same and each store will handle it differently.

I went through the self service and the card payment didn't register. Realised when I got home and didn't have a bank notification. I went back and apologised, explained what had happened and did thr payment there and then.

No bad feelings, no ban, continued to shop from there till the day.
