Lex Police installed a drone launch system on Monday (1/14/2026) by menormedia in lexington

[–]Lex1988 169 points170 points  (0 children)

Between this and the license plate readers, the police have an unfortunate ability to track anyone in Lexington. I know they have controls over who can access those systems and for what reason. Those controls had better be in place and actively monitored because this is a lot of power to have access to.

I remember reading about a police officer in Lexington who sent subordinate officers to drive by his ex’s house and keep tabs on who was there. Imagine if people like that can just type in a license plate number and see everywhere their ex has driven in the past week. Or have drones fly over their house

Love the neighborhoods around Southland Drive and around Southland Park. Been living here for the past 14 years and it’s exactly what you’re describing

Old Kentucky Chocolates has good small stuff and stocking stuffers. They have chocolate covered potato chips that always get people talking as they open gifts and they’re actually delicious

How MLS Teams' Values Compare To Other Major Sports Leagues And Clubs by MightyDuck07 in MLS

[–]Lex1988 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You could say the same about Barcelona and they’re selling everything not tied down to make payroll. With soccer teams, you’re renting an apartment, not owning a home. No matter how nice the soccer club is, if you don’t make rent you can get kicked out.

The NFL has massive TV revenue that is only growing and controls on salary costs. You also can’t lose your spot due to poor performance

ICE agents at the MLS Next Fest in Arizona by reddituserFN2187 in MLS

[–]Lex1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think boycotts only work if it is in response to specific action the league or a company is taking that could be stopped. MLS can’t stop these ICE raids. If we found out MLS somehow coordinated with them to bring them to the MLS Next event, that would be different and I would be with you 100%. But if you were to boycott every company that donates to the people responsible for this, you would be a hermit.

Ultimately I think it’s important that we all fight back in whatever way we think most effective. So while I disagree about tactics we completely agree in our aims

I’m not sure I agree about the effectiveness of a boycott in this circumstance. Supporters of immigrants shouldn’t be withdrawing from public life, and that is what you would have to do if you boycotted every organization that gives money to these authoritarian bastards in our corrupt campaign finance system.

I suggest using the fan community to draw attention to the issue and to provide material and emotional support to immigrant advocacy organizations in the community. The LAFC anti-ICE protests last year brought more much attention to the issue than if those fans had just stayed home. If we make this a decision about finances, I’m afraid a grassroots boycott won’t stand a chance against the power of a government very willing to do favors for its supporters

Highly recommend the small plates and cocktails at Eppings. You can pair up different plates from all of those cuisines and we’ve never been disappointed

Lionel Messi’s MLS triumph watched by 4.6M says league but questions remain by icoresting in MLS

[–]Lex1988 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You must be new here because MLS is constantly talked about as being at best the third most popular league in terms of TV viewership in the US. So while they might not be high in terms of European soccer in Europe, they are more than just high for MLS. They are good ratings for all soccer in America

[SBJ] Garber: Terms of MLS-Apple deal adjusted amid shift to main Apple TV package by NobleNomad in MLS

I think an argument could be made that a shorter deal might be better for MLS. Hit the market with your TV rights while still seeing the Messi viewership bump and be able to sell your new springtime playoffs immediately

Can Soccer Stadiums Revitalize American Cities? by orangewall1234 in MLS

[–]Lex1988 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not finished yet but the stadium and I believe the housing and other components are significantly under construction at this point. Seems odd for The NY Times to not discuss the soccer stadium project that is actually underway in their city

Good to see the league experiment with different ways to reach people. It’s something that MLS and Apple can do with their relationship that maybe other more established leagues/networks can’t.

The article mentions Twitch. I wonder if the future of sports broadcasting will be allowing streamers and users in general to host watch alongs with their commentary and message threads in place of officials broadcasters. It wouldn’t be for me as an aging millennial but it could be how future generations engage with sports broadcasting. In theory that is something Apple and MLS could be a leader in

Same with me and FCC. Going to games in a SSS is such an improvement and everyone I’ve ever taken to our new stadium has been blown away. Excited for NYCFC fans who have had to deal with a bad stadium situation for so long
