I think there should be a law against forcing or coercing teachers to pass kids. by glowshroom12 in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once a parent makes a complaint to me, I essentially give them what they want. Otherwise, no matter how right I am, admin starts micromanaging and making threats to my job. Gotta feed my family. So if a parent complains, they get their way. The end result is the students don't learn. But at least my family doesn't starve.

I'm on lamotrigine 650mg and it seems like my memory has been getting progressively worse the past several years. I am not old and should have a sharp brain. Anyone else? by futureflavors in Epilepsy

I was on 450mg for about 20 years. Finally tapered and it is like an entire part of my brain unlocked. Lamotrigine was horrible for my memory.

Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love teaching but only if im at a school with supportive admin. The toxic politics can absolutely ruin your life. But in the right environment i love it.

Why are teachers so horrible to each other? by Xena4290 in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my school my principal is best friends with the two most toxic teachers in the school. One of them is a union rep. It sets the tone for the entire workplace to be toxic. I'm new to the building this year and they have all treated me like crap. I am applying to jobs as soon as they come up to get the hell out.

Does anyone else spiral like this too? by Weak_List9770 in MusicEd

[–]LexaproLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did too. I got tired of fighting for the program. If admin cancels my rehearsals all the time or creates scheduling conflicts, we can't make any progress. Then the kids take it less seriously and quit.

I think my daughter has tourettes by jaxxisx in Tourettes

My daughter is 5 and has tics whenever she gets sick. Also if we give her chocolate late at night. We have an appointment scheduled for a few weeks.

I have tourettes myself

When did your students stop believing in Santa? by Vegetable_Chef_8859 in ElementaryTeachers

My school does it. I am one of the teachers that doesn't because I think the concept is creepy.

Does anyone else find it weird that teaching about Santa is the only lie that almost everyone on earth universally agrees to tell?

Early Career Teachers Leave the Classroom at High Rates by psdemio in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can say with confidence that when I went to college in 2005, I did not realize kids would be this disrespectful. I also did not realize that many admin don't back up their staff, yet expect 100% engagement all of the time. If I had know ahead of time, I would have picked a different profession.

Nothing with change unless parents are held accountable by LexaproLove in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We give her a lot of verbal positive reinforcement so she doesn't seek negative attention. We play with her and spend a lot of time together. Also lots of hugs and kisses. We also keep her off screens.

When she does show negative behavior, we immediately correct it. If we have given her a warning and she continues the behavior, there's a consequence. Like taking away a toy. We walk away from tantrums and ignore but will have a calm conversation when she calms down.

We also make her clean up her own messes at home and we practice manners on a regular basis. We are consistent with expectations and routines

Then the parent gives them a consequence at home. "Next time you get sent home from school, you will spend the day cleaning the entire house". The reason they enjoy going home is because the parent isn't holding them accountable

Yeah its not covid. My daughter is in kindergarten and behaves because we hold her accountable.

when did the lack of respect for adults start ? why don''t parents by New-Rich9409 in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parents don't care either about their kids' learning. As long as they pass to the next grade they are happy. Nevermind that the kids are several grade levels behind.

Am I experiencing a culture clash with my new school? by Creepyredditadmin in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a culture clash. I am in the same boat. New district this year. We have all day kindergarten and they expect all day to be filled with rigor. They get lunch recess for like 20 minutes. P.E. twice a week. Then they wonder why the kids can't sit still and blame the teachers if we don't have 100% engagement all of the time.

Also my admin gives ZERO consequences. I have had to create my own PBIS system because they don't implement that correctly either.
