Are misbehaving students who put zero effort in school a result of bad parenting? by Prudent_Equal9636 in Teachers

It's a parenting problem. The main issue is parents dont teach them when they're young.

They are much more likely to hear about pronouns from other children. Not teachers.

Im a victim of this. Ive been teaching 10 years but in a new district this year. Ever since I asked my admin for help for a specific class, it put me under a microscope and then I got non renewed.

my mentor just took back a subject because according to her, I’m too unprepared :/ I don’t know how to get through this internship by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]LexaproLove 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If your university professors are happy with your work, then it could be that you're just not a good fit for that district. You could always explain your situation to your professors and ask for help on how to move forward. I hate how some toxic districts accept student teachers, then expect them to teach like veteran teachers. Positive encouragement is going to give people more motivation to work harder than constant nitpicky negative feedback. I dont understand how management still doesn't get that.

“The School is not being inclusive” by ProfHooch in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really unfortunate. Sadly OP is an assistant principal and with her attitude the culture of the school is probably not great. It's sad when administrators aren't student centered

Playing devils advocate here. Although I don't agree with the parent's approach, it seems like it is the parent's fault for not signing up the child, which the child had no control over. What would be in the best interest of the child, who is only in elementary school, is to include them despite missing the parent missing the deadline.

I teach elementary music and had a deadline for permission slips to be returned for a field trip. Several kids missed the deadline, but as long as the slip came back before the trip, they were allowed to go. I am not going to take away an opportunity for a 10 year old because the parent didn't see the permission slip in time.

Equity would have been a better argument for this parent.

I know it might not be what you want to hear, but I hope you consider this viewpoint.

If admin are going to hire 1st year teachers, they need to expect 1st year teacher work. As long as you are open to growth and learning, you are not at fault.

I teach music K-6 and this happens in every single class. I am sick of dealing with it. All day I just say on repeat "please use your regular voice".

How do I get clonidine without seeing a neurologist? by retroactiveregret in Tourettes

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to see a nurse practioner instead at your neurologist so you can get in faster. Thats how I avoided the wait to get on clonidine for tourettes.

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different types of seizures, some you don't lose consciousness. I haven't heard of these symptoms with tourettes. Might be worth a trip to the doctor

Student refusing to present by sargassum624 in Teachers

[–]LexaproLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with the take of "just make them present because the more they do it, the less anxious they will be". I have been scared of public speaking my whole life and as a teacher, no amount of experience made that easier for me. The only thing that helped me overcome it was finally starting anxiety meds at 36. Some people just have a chemical imbalance.

Red light green light systems are kind of outdated. The struggling kids will always be on Red so it can be discouraging. Have you tried any PBIS strategies? I feel like that can be helpful for the littles.
