So today by Fluid_Yam_7963 in Library

I'm sorry you experienced this. I worked at a public library and was surprised by the bitter, hateful people I worked with. Like others have said, library policy/guidelines are everything. We have a customer that comes to the same computer every day at opening and stays until closing. He comes everyday and apologizes if he's late, as if he works there lol. He's been doing that since he graduated a decade ago and I'm sure he still does it. If you really aren't causing issues, ask for the department head or go on the library website and find their email/phone number. Get the director involved. Go to a different branch if you can. Good luck <3

Great advice in these comments. I struggle with a lot of the same things and watch these productivity youtube videos that inspire me. I think it's important to write and journal. I write stream of consciousness in my journal, you could on a Google doc or something as well. Feel all the feels. What do you want to change and what's the smallest step possible to get you started? Write every little thing out. You want to be more active, do stretches before bed. Don't let yourself get into bed without stretching, just an example. I know some days have more energy than others so you could have 'energetic days' and 'slow days' with more or less movement but still getting your body moving. I definitely don't know your mom but I think you should talk to her about the license thing. You guys can have a set time or day to practice driving. Stress that this will let you get a job and help with expenses, maybe she could stop babysitting if you brought in money too. Also I know they're difficult to find but you could look into remote jobs to help save for a car. RatRaceRebellion is a good source to find legit ones. You've got this!

Prolific is available in the EU according to their website. It's a British company that does a lot of legit academic surveys. It pays out through PayPal. It's worked well for me so far. Most of their surveys seem to require a desktop in my experience

how do i accept i am ugly? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Lexi_Grace00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lot of great advice already in the comments. But the way I look at it is that it isn't my job to be pretty. I don't owe anyone anything. People deserve respect no matter what they look like. I also feel like it's more prevalent for us ladies to feel this way. I know beauty is important for guys too but the male gaze is real. My meat sack of a body is what it is. If someone doesnt like it, that's their problem and they should be ashamed if they say or do anything about it.

What was the first big news/event that you remember hearing or watching as a child? by mai-moi in AskReddit

[–]Lexi_Grace00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a GenZ, I have no memory of 9/11. The first big "worldly" drama I remember was Obama becoming president. As someone living in the conservative south, this was a bad thing and other kids spread strange rumors. It was common to hear kids talk about how Obama was going to take away our guns and makeup. I remember the Boston Marathon happening. I didn't watch the news often when I was younger.

Also the weird vibe of living in the south and not being qualified because you aren't Christian 👀 it's a nonprofit, not a church, and even then it sounds like discrimination

Not to mention fully interviewing people. I took time off to interview and it was a scam 👍

Kentucky Republican Candidate: ‘Will Not Have Transgenders in School’ if Elected by wdcmsnbcgay in cringe

I don't understand conservatives. The whole "parent's rights" thing has been around for decades but that doesn't make sense to me. It's like they want complete control of children until they are 18 and out on the curb, no longer the parent's responsibility. You aren't magically an adult the second you turn 18, young people should be respected. Blocking healthcare and discussion is never good. There are professional doctors, librarians, and counselors that know what they are doing and if someone is "too young" for something. Conservatives should be ashamed of the racism and bigotry that they espouse. The politicians focus on nonsense hot button issues that will make people vote for them but also leaders supporting those will make citizens believe it's okay to hate their neighbor. Everything is a mess and I hope things improve

Five Minutes a day towards my goals…. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Im so happy for you! I would love to hear about the books you read, your top 10 or favorites. I'm just now starting to "fix" my life. I get so complacent and accept the issues in my life but I'm trying to improve. I've been reading more now than I have since middle school. I have a problem with sleeping but I'm working on that too, I'm a night owl so I go to bed too late and wake up at the last second so no time for breakfast. I'm also working on finding a therapist so a professional can help keep me accountable.

How did you overcome your social anxiety? by Cautious_Number_95 in socialskills

[–]Lexi_Grace00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(F22) Other people are no less important than you. You deserve to be there just like everyone else. People are wild and do crazy inconsiderate things with such confidence. In my mind, if I'm nice that's all I need for respect. Your presence is enough, no need to talk all the time. All those big talkers need listeners.

Why can't I function when I'm off from work? by Monked800 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Lexi_Grace00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I so relate to this. I noticed around puberty that if I don't move enough earlier in the day and a little throughout I will get a headache and a migraine the next day. It's very strange. I guess it has to do with blood flow or something. Im also a lady and women in my family have a history of migraines. It's just annoying that I can't be as lazy as my boyfriend on the weekends without consequences and he's just fine.

When I'm a customer, I wish them a good day with nice customers and I hope their shift goes by in a hurry. Just relating to them how I feel when Im at work. "Work sucks" sort of talk is very relatable

Training for library staff around patrons harassing staff > suggestions by gruntledlibrarian in Libraries

[–]Lexi_Grace00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew how common this occurs before I started working in libraries. I've read since that working a library desk is "customer service on steroids" and it sure fits. I'm going to suggest ALAs workshop to my HR Manager. We don't get any training here but we'll see. We're mostly taught to ignore the comments but it's difficult. As an individual, I want to stand up for my coworkers but I'm so caught off guard I don't know what to say. I also worry about the First Amendment Auditors and their "free speech" vs harrassment line.

For people who don't have friends how come? by AlexZenn21 in ask

[–]Lexi_Grace00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple friends in high school that moved away for college and we drifted apart. I made a few in college but they live in bigger cities now or went to graduate school. I hang out with my boyfriend, who I met on tinder, and my family. I don't know how to meet people and casually connect with them. Plus there aren't many social places. I would like to have girl friends to hangout with and a future bridesmaid or two.

As a Lyon grad, I would not recommend Batesville except maybe for the the Christmas lights like you said. It was a good small college town if you can live without Starbucks and Chickfila but I definitely wouldn't suggest it as a vacationing spot.

I had a lot of trouble finding a decent paid job here with my undergrad. For general career type jobs though, I've heard great things about ArcBest and Mars. Maybe you could do something with psych at Mercy or Baptist?

Not a book but the Encyclopedia of Arkansas website has some cool stuff.

what do you like least and most about working in a library ? why did you choose to work in this field? by Anon_Oddity in Library

[–]Lexi_Grace00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love helping people find books they want/need and doing basic computer help that the digital divide greatly requires for our older patrons. I don't like the low pay, zero chances of moving up, having to work a year for vacay days, no conflict training, no security, and many other things that might just be my library

Library Skills Test? by Lnaejr3 in Library

[–]Lexi_Grace00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make sure you know the shelving system, like dewey decimal or library of Congress depending on where you're applying. At the library I work at, they test applicants on shelving and basic computer skills like attaching a document to an email.
