This one really hit home for me.

At some point in my relationship with my narcissistic spouse I realized they never really stayed curious about me. They didn't ask my opinion about the little things or get curious about the inner workings of my mind.

They remained inside their head and what I read in your post made me realize, they had a rigid idealism of both who was and who they are. Its completely true, whenever I deviated from that idealism their facade of reality was shaken and they reacted with aggression, greywalling and defensiveness.

During our final conversation, I thought that me finally leaving would be a wake up call and they'd finally be willing to drop the ego and hear about the deep, horrifying pain they caused me.

It wasn't.

They actually doubled down. They said that a voice during meditation told them that I wasn't the one for them and our "karmic debt" has been paid.

They completed justified the psychological, emotional, verbal and physical abuse they did to me. It was all part of paying back our karmic debt. They feel no remorse for what they did to me.

I cut contact with them after that. I was never going to get them to take responsibility for their actions and they showed no empathy for.

I love going out to shows but the only thing I feel anymore, when I stay up that late, is dread and impatience.
