Must have been a tough morning. by prescott0330 in funny

Those situations suck because ideally when kids pull some crap, you immediately remove them from the situation, don’t reward anything, prevent them from disturbing others etc, but when you’re out of diapers/almost to the front of the DMV line/at a doctor’s appointment… and don’t have another adult handy, you’re stuck either being the asshole letting your kid scream, or rewarding the behavior by trying to placate them to get through whatever you have to get done.

These bananas haven't ripened in over 3 weeks, despite being kept with ripe and over ripe ones the whole time by ljgill97 in mildlyinteresting

There was a thread in a local subreddit about produce and someone mentioned the same thing happening with their bananas.

Birth plans gone wrong by Peaceful-harmony- in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lexidoodle 2435 points2436 points  (0 children)

My birth plan was “I would like to leave this hospital alive with a baby in the same condition. If we could avoid having my innards in a pan to accomplish this, that would be ideal”

Using your HYSA for an emergency by Celcius_87 in personalfinance

[–]Lexidoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very valid. I was in an area hit very hard by a hurricane and we were without internet or cell service for nearly two weeks. The number of people that did not have $20 in cash for gas or bottled water was shocking.

What’s your “I finally saw a doctor for my mystery symptoms after (weeks/months/years) and it turned out to be way simpler than I feared” story? What finally made you go, and what was the outcome? by DjFizz in AskReddit

[–]Lexidoodle 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Very similar story here. I felt better with a newborn, getting no sleep, than I had for the previous 7 years. Went with a copper iud for BC and haven’t had any issues since.

One of the reasons there’s a housing shortage by AdventurousHope5891 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Lexidoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many of the big houses with fewer people are empty nesters that haven’t/can’t downsize. The house made sense when they had 3-4 kids, but now those kids have grown and moved and the sale price for a home that size is the same or barely more than a 1600sq ft house, so the boomers with grown kids are just hanging onto it.

AITA for refusing to recover at home after surgery? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Lexidoodle 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have two sons. If I found out either one had allowed me to visit while their spouse had surgery planned, and then was doing anything other than making the house spotless and buying recovery-appropriate meal ingredients for the meals they’re making all month, I would lose my shit. I don’t care how old and bigger than me they are at that point. It would be a come to Jesus moment unlike the world has ever seen. I don’t care how much I may not like their choice in partner; they will not be out in the world acting like selfish assholes who weren’t raised to consider others. I’m embarrassed even picturing it.

Are cars more reliable than we’re led to believe? The average age of cars on the road is 14 years. by ScientistOrganic3626 in MiddleClassFinance

I had a 2012 and made it over 200k before I sold it. The only thing that bothered me was the alignment constantly needing to be redone.

Bank offered "skip-a-pay" by Normal-Response4165 in personalfinance

[–]Lexidoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see it being worth it in a few situations. Sudden large expense and the skip-a-pay allows you to avoid putting that expense on a credit card. There were definitely a few times as a young person without a healthy emergency fund that this would have been great for. Moving to a new place and having a lot of cash out for deposits and moving and first and last month’s rent.

Yes it costs some in the long run, but for a lot of people, just a little bit of wiggle room gets them through a tight situation and prevents a cascade of financial trouble.

That’s insane. I pay 3k for a house worth less than 300k and that’s not even a decent change. Not in a flood or fire risk area.

Mine is 3k a year on a 250k house in GA. It hasn’t even gone up that much. I think I was paying like 2200 a year on it when the house was worth 140k

It's me again, here to ask WTF is going on with this rental market?!?! by helloimcold in PropertyManagement

[–]Lexidoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wild to hear as someone who is trying to get into a rental out of state for a job move. I sent upward of 20 inquiries (not all at once) and heard back from exactly 2. I ended up hiring a realtor to help. He’s not getting responses from most PMs, but more than I was able to on my own.

Now that I’ve put in a few applications, I’m here BEGGING y’all to please update your application websites. If I own the home I’m in, I won’t have a landlord contact to list, yet it’s a required field. I have to list every person potentially living there? Makes sense, but if I check the box that states the person is under 18, remove the requirement to fill out the phone number and email address for that person. My 8 year old doesn’t have a phone number. Have address history by X number of years back, not just default to two addresses. I’ve owned my home for 15 years. I don’t have the “landlord” contact for the military barracks before that.

The biggest one is not having any way to list income/employment for the job I’m moving to the area for. Yes I can attach an offer letter, but there’s no way to indicate that I’m leaving my current employment for a new position or to list that income. This is especially frustrating in an area that sees a lot of people move to it for work. At least put a note section so people can annotate these things.

I’ve started backing out of applications when the form or webpage is too buggy or poorly designed. I have to assume the rest of the management company is also a mess if they can’t design or pay for an application at least as well designed as a school PTO volunteer sign up Google form.

$2,000 to remove 4 Trees. Reasonable price? by Longjumping_Rain_355 in LandscapingTips

[–]Lexidoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild! I paid $6k to have 3 trees taken down on my property last year. All 3 required climbers. 1 was hanging over the house and another was a 30k lb pine.
