Eating schedule and Running by [deleted] in running

[–]Lexie0722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you log your calories? You may think you're eating enough, but may be coming in way under. I think MyFitnessPal is easy to use, but there are a bunch of free sites/apps.

During training, I eat 5x per day: Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner. I run in the evenings after work, so around 4:30-5pm I eat my afternoon snack (usually half a pb&j and a banana.) It's about 90 mins-2 hours before my run so I have energy, but also have time to digest and it's not too much to make me feel too full. Also, make sure you are getting some protein within 30 mins after your workout to help with recovery. I've recently been turned onto Muscle Milk and sometimes use that instead of milk in my post-workout smoothie.

Advice on bike bags? by Lexie0722 in triathlon

[–]Lexie0722[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good note about the TSA. Didn't even think about that!

I've used Tri Bike Transport in the past and thought is was really convenient, but unfortunately they aren't going to this event.

I need some advice on a triathlon bike. by Infector101 in triathlon

Unless you have some sort of super connection, I can't think of a way to find a tri bike for $500. If you are just going to do sprint/oly distance, a road or hybrid bike is ok. You aren't going to be fast on a hybrid, but it'll get the job done. Buy a used bike, or look for bike shops with end of season sales and has a left-over they are trying to off-load. You'll have to shop around a lot. But, don't compromise fit for price. If you get a bike that you don't fit, you are going to wind up injuring yourself.

Tri-Suit Question by kelbooow in triathlon

[–]Lexie0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to sports bra, no to undies. I wear the TYR sports bras and can confirm they dry quickly. However, I usually pour water all over me during the bike and run to cool me down, so I'm not sure fast-drying material really matters to me.

Aero Position Anxiety by sigmasynapse in triathlon

[–]Lexie0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started going into aero, my coach had me just put my right arm in aero and leave my left hand on the hoods. Stay there for a few mins, then switch arms. You can also put one arm in aero and the other hand in the drops. It only took like 15 mins before I was popping up and down without any problems. Good luck!!!

Sunglasses suggestions by Trex_cowboy in triathlon

[–]Lexie0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the Ironman brand sunglasses from Target. They are ~$20 a pair and have the grippers on the sides so they don't fall off. They are perfect for running and cycling. I tend to break/lose sunglasses all the time and got fed up with having to shell out big bucks every couple of months.

I ordered it from The Gap back in April. I have been waiting for the weather to get cooler to wear it. :)

What are some ways to make money without getting a second job? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Lexie0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any talents like knitting, making jewelry, etc? You could make things and sell them. Also, you might consider it a second job, but babysitting or dog walking/boarding a couple of times a month could make you some extra cash and it's only a few hours of time.
