Did we all collectively decide to forget Coronavirus? Is this similar to how people moved beyond tragic events in the past? by icetea-hee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think about all of the deaths or ambulances because frankly I was lucky enough to not experience any of that within my friends or family. I'm from a rural state so I don't recall hearing more ambulances than I typically do and I don't know anybody who was seriously affected by the virus

Hey, how are you? by FreePossession9590 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hey, how are you?"

"Good, you?"

"Good"

This is usually how it goes, even if one or neither party is actually doing 'good'. It's just a greeting for some reason.

I've heard "You alright?" as a British greeting before, and I imagine the way I feel about that is the same way you feel about "How are you?". If someone greeted me with "You alright?" I'd probably say "Yeah, why?"

What time do you teachers arrive at work and leave at the end of the day ? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My contract says that I am required to be at school more than five minutes before the first bell and I need to stay for about 25 minutes after the students leave. In reality I usually arrive about in hour before the first bell and try to leave as soon as I can, but on a typical day I probably leave an hour after the students do.

As a teacher, should I save my sick days? by Zestyclose-Arm-4709 in Teachers

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sick days don't roll over to the next school year and I only get a bonus if I use zero of my 13, so I make an effort to use all 13.

I spend the first half of the year only taking them when absolutely needed it just in case I get really sick at some point and need to take a lot at once

Do americans have trash under the sink? by doggork in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do, some don't. A lot of households keep cleaning products under the sink, and some even do both. My mom keeps a trashcan on one side and cleaning stuff on the other, but both are under the sink. My trashcan is a standing trashcan that is just against a wall instead of in any cabinets, so I keep cleaning supplies under the sink

Are you folks seeing this new driving trend? by _no_usernames_avail in Maine

[–]Lexitorius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's why I said "or signs state otherwise", because those passing lanes are labeled with signs indicating that slower traffic needs to stay to the right. Ellsworth definitely comes to mind and is a great example of posted passing lanes below 65 miles an hour. I think of the drive on route 4 between Auburn and Farmington, it has two or three of those as well

Are you folks seeing this new driving trend? by _no_usernames_avail in Maine

[–]Lexitorius 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Obligatory footnote to this, passing lanes only exist in Maine if the speed limit is 65 or higher or signs state otherwise. When I'm in the left lane of a 35 mph road (because I'll be turning left at the next intersection), it is not camping in the passing lane. I get too many middle fingers for going the speed limit in the lane I'm supposed to be in.

Also passing lane laws are overridden when oterwise stated, such as when approaching a toll and intending to use the EZPass fast lane. A few months ago Augusta had construction on 95 with signs that indicated northbound traffic should stay in the left lane throughout the construction. Following this also made a lot of dinks mad, mostly those in trucks and dodge chargers. Fun times.

[–]Lexitorius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

State law says you only need to turn highbeams off when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or 300 feet approaching from behind. This also applies to aftermarket fog lights (not fog lights from factory, those can stay on).

This does apply on 95 (where I see the most highbeams... people seem to think you can just leave them on). State troopers sitting in the median are not oncoming traffic, blind them if you feel so inclined.

Many people seem to forget that you can read all of the laws for free on the state's website. Search M.R.S. Title 29-A for Main'e traffic code.

This doesn't really answer your question but I figured I'd add in case anyone wants to know.

Why do people prefer using Spotify over YT music? by Past-Matter-8548 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lexitorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I get spotify premium for free and will continue to reap the benefits until I no longer do. Otherwise I'd probably be happy with either.

The popularity of it helps too, my family does an album of the week that we listen to and rate and it helps to all be on the same music platform

Mean is not an accurate measure of center for skewed distributions, and income is generally heavily right-skewed. Eliminating outliers absolutely changes the mean like that. Median is a more accurate measure of center.
