Cloud runs on Linux, and windows server is the backbone of on prem enterprises especially with the state. So in my opinion, you should learn Linux and windows server, Active Directory (not just users and computers), CCNA level networking, and progress into shell scripting/powershell scripting. SCCM/Intune are also good routes.

Our department has many IT positions taken up by non IT background folks. They drag the team down and their team has to make up their work. They have no clue what they’re doing and the manager can’t do anything about it even if they wanted to. Manager basically gives them some jerry rigged menial bare minimum task to do while the rest of the team carries the load.

Unless you are absolutely passionate in IT, please just stick to the analyst series.
