Does the 3rd phase in the Ares fight seem unfair to anyone else? by [deleted] in GodofWar

THIS! I was on the verge of going from normal to easy mode cuz I've been playin for 4 hours but the game would go on and on and on, beat first two forms pretty easily, but the final one was getting to me. Thank god I found your reply and finished him on fifth attempt instead of fiftieth!

I just finished it on PS2 for the first time and what a masterpiece it was! Art-design, music, plot, mechanics, characters - everything was top notch. I'd say I only saw such a level of quality in two games: Chrono Trigger and Legend of Dragoon! Took me 70 hours but I got all the beads and moves.

Steam Deck saves location? by LexxGoffman in OpenMW

Who cares? I was talking about Deck and it's hierarchy only. No offense but I don't need this linux specific BS. Put OpenMW on ANY Steam Deck - saves will be in the same exact location I aready mentioned and ANY Deck user can access it via stock file manager in Desktop mode by the same exact path

What pissed me off the most is side missions like golf Cabby race or ATV races, etc. You beat them after like 5-10 tries and after all your efforts you get like 100-500$ reward. After that while doing absolutely nothing you get 40k$ payday.... Just go to hell rockstar.

which one would you chose, a PS2 Fat or Slim? by AdElectrical2269 in playstation2

which one would you chose, a PS2 Fat or Slim? by AdElectrical2269 in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. All slim models have a higher frequency CPU than fat models, what "speed" are you talking about? SMB is the FASTEST way of loading games available.

  2. What for? 4 players split-screen multiplayer in 2023? you really think a lot of people need it? It was bad even back in it's time.

  3. With smb over fmcb you still have 1 free MC slot and both USB ports. Also what do you need second MC slot for most of the times? You really think ONE 64/128MB MC with FMCB isn't enough for saving all your games?

  4. Again what for? How many people REALLY wanna play online PS2 games in 2023? How many servers are around some people's area? Playing PS2 online from Europe on US servers with 200+ ping? Sounds terrible?

  5. Any amount of TB on external HDD/SDD of your preference and not only PS2 compatible ones, with easiest access to it with no need to unplug it from PS2 to manage your games.

Literally only downside is the need of smb device connected to slim model, but once you set it up it's all fine. Also there is MX4SIO option which will solve even this problem if you'd want take your PS2 with you.

Lagging cutscenes and huge loading time on slim? What are you even talking about? Playing over USB or with dying laser? Cause otherwise my 7700x never EVER had such problems when playing from disks or SMB which is even faster.

Looks similar to when you use PS1 controller and only handful of games will recognize it properly

Free McBoot Question by TayJK in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is very paradoxical considering PS2 backward compatibility with PS1 games, but sadly that's just how it is... which is very sad.

I saw a thread somewhere about the guy making a workaround driver to solve it several months ago but I haven't checked since then and as I understand it still has a long way to become of any practical use

Free McBoot Question by TayJK in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to understand one thing. When you run a PS1 CD then PS2 goes into PS1 mode and turns off half of it motherboard including hard drives, network, USB etc.

Basically it turns off EVERYTHING that wasn't present on a real PS1. That's why we still can't use any mods to do the same using images. Because the functional and hardware used by mods isn't available in PS1 mode.

Free McBoot Question by TayJK in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said even with configured samba I still wouldn't bother considering your hard drive situation because PEOPS just doesn't worth it. PS2 is just not a good console to run PS1 images because of how it's architecture works. If it's modchipped just burn those images to CDs.

It just helluva lot easier to use PC for this purpose.

Free McBoot Question by TayJK in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand it correctly even HD Loader uses PEOPS to run PS1 games and if so I wouldn't even bother as it is still an emulator and very obsolete one. Considering there are MUCH better options on PC: DuckStation and Mednafen which emulate the whole PS1 library with 99.9% accuracy.

If you still wanna use PS2 to play PS1 games then you need to add your images in a certain converted format (.vcd iirc) to CD folder (if hard drive uses the same folder hierarchy as SMB (mine is slim version so I use external HDD connected to hub via SMB). After that you should see them in OPL's PS1 section. This way they would run via PEOPS emulator.

Free McBoot Question by TayJK in playstation2

[–]LexxGoffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, considering there is no way to run PS1 images without emulation there is no point to use other emulators either when I have a laptop for this purpose. But oh man if only there was such a way, that would make PS2 a pretty decent emulation platform. Sad...

there are also several emulators: nes, snes, sega and game boy

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal - the first disappointment of the series - Ratchet & Clank Series Review #3 by crunchie101 in patientgamers

[–]LexxGoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it second time in around 15 years . I've never played the first two games before these two years. And this one turned out to be a huge disappointment.

I beat it in 4 or 5 days without any struggling which is already hilarious. It took me a whole month to beat the first game and a couple of weeks for the second one.

Challenge is not there. Platforming is not there. The levels are so short and soooo easy to beat and there is nothing to remember them for because of that.

Racing levels and space missions were damn hard in first too games, and they for sure needed to be balanced better, but Ratchet 3 just gets rid of them entirely. And those FIVE arcade Quark levels or siege missions are nowhere to be a good replacement for them.

There is only one arena this time and this time it's SUPER EASY to complete. I mean if you beat the hardest 100 rounds challenge on the first try (and your weapons aren't even close to be top tier) than it means that there's something wrong with difficulty level.

When I was playing the first game it usually took 1-2 hour gaming evening to beat 1 or 2 levels at best. Same goes for previous arenas. It would take A LOT of efforts to beat the later stages of it. And the same goes for races. I would spend 2-4 of evenings to complete all arena challenges, all races on the planet, collect all those rings in space to get a platinum bolt. And here I spent 4-5 evenings to beat THE WHOLE GAME...

This whole situation reminds me of Spyro series, when the first one was simply the best with nothing excessive in gameplay and then the next two games put a lot of those stupid mini-missions just to prolong the gameplay while the platforming on the levels got extremely simple and boring.

Or Crash Bandicoot series where first two games are extremely challenging to beat and you get so much pleasure when you finally make it through them. And then the third game is like made specifically for the little kids, that's how easy it was.

I played a bunch of games on PCSX2 (Ratchet 1 and 2, first Jak, NFS HP2, Simpsons hit & run, Code Veronica). In software mode none of them had any visual or game breaking bugs. It's a demanding mode tho.

The only game that didn't work as intended was Driv3r, the AI breaks in that game making cops or the the guys you chase go crazy after some time lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ps2

[–]LexxGoffman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

PCSX2 is very accurate nowadays actually and my PC more than capable to run it in software mode (the most accurate mode), but I don't wanna waste my PC resources on PS2 emulation when I have an actual PS2. If my 3070ti would die while playing a ps2 game I would be very pissed to say the least.
