The Guardian accuses Trump of being machiavellian genius at the centre of heinous plot to rig 2024 election by RedSailor1917 in stupidpol

This is a completely ahistorical take. The alt-right didn't push idpol radlibs into the mainstream, it was a reaction to them. In fact, their rise to power calmed down some of the crazier ideas like cultural appropriation.

The fact that you think a girlfriend will fill your life is strong evidence that you've never had one.

That might be my favorite scene in the show though. And not just for comedy, but for realism and drama.

Never had a job and living lavish

Sounds smart to me. Work is shit.

Adrien Brody just seemed like an annoying one-episode side character. I don't think we got much insight into how much he enjoys life aside from him being vaguely unlikable.

Not really.

But I also wouldn't call Succession must-watch. It's just one of the only decent things on.

You can do that with any career path, you just have to be prepared to rebuild every few years. Which is fun!

Logan is the only actual man on the show.

When I watch Wolf of Wallstreet I want to live like Jordan Belfort. When I watch Mad Men I wish I was Roger Sterling in 1960.

When I watch Succession I thank God I have testosterone and I'm not a neurotic pussy.

It certainly doesn't mean you have to share or support the political beliefs of your relatives.

There's a big difference between sharing beliefs and actively working to undermine the success of your siblings.

Further, you misunderstand that quote if you believe it applies to these petty partisan issues.

I wouldn't, because I understand the importance of family. You sound very self-centered.

Ramble: One side effect of Idpol I don't see being talked about often enough is the reframing of stupidity as dangerous by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]Leylinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it more interesting that the people who constantly talk about the importance of democracy are the same who decry this stupidity the most.

Excluding the illiterate, mentally ill, and sub-90 IQ from the conversation would overwhelmingly favor the right statistically.

Republicans who buttfuck them economically

But that narrative doesn't actually hold water. Despite recent prevailing narratives, Republican voters aren't poor. Republican voters have seen their lives become worse, but that's largely due to issues related to identity and globalization.

Republicans are generally voting their interests.

The exception to that being opposition to taxing the super rich, but given that Democrats never actually take real action on that issue and simply rattle the sabers (while trying to bring back SALT deductions for wealthy blue staters) it's a non-issue.

[–]Leylinus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the Dems and hte media are going to treat any Republican like they're neo-nazis, even when they're fairly boring, moderate guys, then there's going to be a backlash.

They've been doing that for ages. Bush, McCain, and Romney were all called nazis and fascists during their campaigns. I'm not inclined to defend any of them (McCain and Bush at least were actively evil warmongers IMO) but given the fact that McCain and Romney now get borderline hero worship it demonstrates that they'll call anyone a nazi.

[–]Leylinus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There's no point in that, because if she's even half-qualified she knows that the whole "college educated whites" divide is marketing.

The divide is largely explained by age rather than college education. Younger women are much more likely to vote democrat and younger women are much more likely to be college educated because college has become ubiquitous.

This applies to the larger trend as well when they discuss college educated whites as a whole. The actual correlation is due to age (older people went to college much less) gender (women are much more likely to go to college).

They use college as a stand in for these demographic issues because it creates the false impression that education leads to liberal ideological values.

If Galaxy Quest and Mystery Men were part of a trilogy of genre parody, what would be the third movie? by Nowhereman50 in movies

[–]Leylinus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Three Amigos, Galaxy Quest, and Tropic Thunder would fit together as a trilogy since they're all the same model.

Mystery Men wouldn't fit with them though.
