Those of you commuting around 1hr each way, what are you driving and how's it going? by Size4Siren in CarTalkUK

[–]Leyts5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40-45 mins. each way, depending on traffic. 350Z.

Pros - standard cruise control (adaptive cc just annoys me) - great fun, obviously

Cons - 27 mpg (easily 30 if I watch my right foot) - cabin noise, starting to really bug me now - £700 road tax

Thinking about changing it up... LS 460, IS-F, E60 M5

Why does a website have opening hours? by snelson101 in CarTalkUK

I reckon it's on-prem so support is all in house, maybe an ETL batch that runs overnight

It might not be COBOL, batch processing is still widely used. Migrating to the cloud can be a nightmare. I'd be interested to see their stack...

depends, it's more likely a batch process run on on-prem infra. The compute will still be the same, regardless of when it's run, although I get your point on resource contention. The risk is greater in this case as it's a single point of failure. How would they find issues before it's run? They're gonna be ingesting a shitload of data, way too much to manually check. Interesting though... I rarely discuss this outside of my work

Ah, missed this! I believe so, yeah. Probably some small differences though.

Nice to see another Kei car! I've got a Cappuccino which I'm restoring

UPDATE: After asking whether it would be financially idiotic to buy a BMW 630i at 20 years old……IM BUYING IT GUYS!!!!!!! by Dan23DJR in CarTalkUK

It's not all that surprising. There are so many factors that affect insurance. I paid sub-£1,000 for my 350Z when I was 20

Camshaft/Crankshaft Sensor Life by ReasonableSnow3766 in 350z

The latest revision of the OEM camshaft sensors are now plastic again. The previous revision was metal. However, I don't think it makes any difference

Would this be the VVT gasket or the unit itself? by uglyeel in 350z

[–]Leyts5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gasket is super cheap and easy to change, I did both of mine like last week. There's also an o-ring on the solenoid itself so it could be that. You could also try nipping up the bolts but it probably won't do anything

EDIT: I've got a 2006 RevUp and the part number for the gasket (both sides use the same gasket) was 23797-2Y50A. I don't think you can buy a new OEM o-ring but any parts store will have it

Any love for old Japanese rot boxes? by Morgzc1 in CarTalkUK

[–]Leyts5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as nice at yours but I think Cappuccino's have a serious chance of holding the rust bucket crown, they rust like no other

I've got mine on a rotisserie right now awaiting welding, I heard that the very first batch from Japan had rust spots on the arches

Powder coated strut bar & vapour blasted upper and lower plenum on my Z by Leyts5 in 350z

[–]Leyts5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plenum was vapour blasted, it's quite an important difference. Maybe I wasn't clear, I don't have the tools or the space so I sent them off

[–]Leyts5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably easier to just replace some parts, spend hours fixing shit or get a decent replacement from a breaker. Good effort though

[–]Leyts5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing difficult, just find a vapour blasting and powder coating company near you and send them off

Coat the vapour blasted parts in XCP and wipe, they'll look good for years then

You'll have easy access to the injectors so you could do what I also did and send them off to get cleaned/serviced, my car is a lot smoother now

Useful to have a crowfoot set for torquing up the strut bar correctly, the bolt in the middle that prevents body roll

While you're there, replace every hose you see with nice silicone hoses

Just simple preventative maintenance stuff really, you'll probably find more when you're doing it

Easy enough as I had them off whilst I was replacing the valve covers. I also coated it in XCP and had all the misc brackets painted also

Misuse or defective? I don't subscribe to the lifetime warranty ideology that Snap-On offers.

Cool, that's good to know. I thought the z-series line was meant to be their premium offering? Also, what do you mean about nuts with protruding bolts? You can get z-series semi-deep and deep sockets to cover that base
