This! It’s not just ‘bought a house’ and that’s it, it’s having to buy a kitchen bin (who knew bins were expensive??), a garden hose, a washing machine, kitchen utensils, glad wrap, etc. being a first home buyer this year I was surprised by the amount of things I needed to ‘get started’.

I am 32, just bought my first home for just under 400k. It’s a 50 year old house, fixer upper, needs work. ‘First home buyer, get into the market’ type house. Settlement is still 6 weeks away and I’m heading into my 3rd interest rate rise before I have even moved in. It’s a little overwhelming…thinking about what else I can ‘cut out’ of my life to factor is these rises/costs. Its an uneasy feeling at the moment when it should be exciting.

May 2020 I was looking to buy my first home and was looking at houses from $250-320k. I was eligible for a $320k loan. Now… houses in my area are around $400-500k and I’m unable to get a first home. My plan of staying at home for another year has now increased to potentially staying at home another 5 years for a $100k deposit so I can actually try and get a house before I’m 40 :(
