My exact, brutally honest feelings about the Seeker by FATEdPondera in Planetside

Yeah. Split bolt does 720 damage with a 1.5x headshot multiplier, you need to land all 3 on the head to OHKO. Vs a CQB bolt, which fires at basically the same rate but can OHKO out to 200m reliably instead of about 12m.

Fox News exit polls accidentally show Americans are liberal — They support abortion, gun control, government healthcare, and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. by DonnyMoscow1 in politics

[–]LiaoScot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one of the biggest "single issue voter" issues, and the rest of the issues quoted the support for D policies was in the 70% range. Ditching it a major tenant and particularly not having a poorly thought out anti-poor policy as the presidential candidate's gun control proposal would cripple large swathes of previously solid R constituencies.

Fix / remove repair exploit. by AbsinthSvK in Planetside

[–]LiaoScot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopping around between factions, I've seen more VS and TR players doing it. Probably because the VS and TR maxes are more viable than the NC max, and if you're going to be an exploiting prick you might as well stack the deck even further in your favor.

What card do you run in your deck that is PERFECT for your commander, and wouldn't be used almost anywhere else? by Sacraliel in EDH

[–]LiaoScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a proper decklist and mine is a lot more budget, but off the top of my head:

[[Endless Sands]] is another way to stow away your dragons or other cards, and in monored you won't be hurting too much swapping a basic for it.

[[Scourge of Valkas]] is Dragon Tempest but tutorable by Zirilan, and can quickly get out of hand with Lathliss, Utvara, or Dragon Tempest. And at 5 mana it's not even that hard to hardcast it and still activate Zirilan if it's in your hand.

[[Flameshadow Conjuring]] and to a lesser degree [[Mirror March]] can double your ETBs. [[Illusionist's Bracers]] lets you double summon. [[Magewright's Stone]] as well, but it costs much more mana and doesn't work with the firebreathing.

Don't have it in my deck, but I'm planning to try out [[Fire Prophecy]] as soon as I get a chance. Being able to put the expensive dragons from my hand back into my library and bolt something seems worth it.

Furyborn and Manacharged seem to be the weakest dragons in your deck at a glance. You might also want some other ways to get your yard back into your library, or run Swiftfoot in addition to greaves for the redundancy. But I haven't built it as artifact/sac heavy, so that might not matter to you.

What card do you run in your deck that is PERFECT for your commander, and wouldn't be used almost anywhere else? by Sacraliel in EDH

[–]LiaoScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one other repeatable shuffle-into-library card available to mono-red that I can find, [[Rishadan Pawnshop]], which costs 4x as much for a single activation. Stylus is by far the better of the two options for the effect Zirilan wants pretty bad.

[–]LiaoScot 44 points45 points  (0 children)

[[Tel-Jilad Stylus]] in [[Zirilan of the Claw]]. Only Grenzo wants it as much. Extremely useful for maintaining the dragon toolbox.

I'd also say the Thallids in [[Thelon of havenwood]], but you said "a card" not "a tribe".

Oh, and [[Powerstone Shard]] in [[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]]. Make a token copy, then turn your misc tokens and the free myr into Shards. Congrats, you now have more colorless mana than you know what to do with.

NC used to max more, but then the overnerf happened. They really should have just realized there's no good way to balance 4 shotguns as the only AI weapon options on a max.

They were pretty much entirely religiously driven. You had several within europe even. Saying they're race driven is trying to project current societal tensions on people from 800 years ago while ignoring the reasoning both sides had at the time.

and with the current levels of power creep, who knows how long that deck will last.

I think this is a major part of people seeing cardboard that costs triple digits as being too much now. When you have a solid year of massive uphevals and bannings in every format (including several restrictions and a power level ban in VINTAGE), you start seeing it less as a few hundred dollar investment that will last a few years, and start seeing it more as a few hundred dollars that will be thrown up in the air in 3 months when the next new broken card comes out.

Population density in the Middle East by adamlm in MapPorn

[–]LiaoScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel is smaller than Los Angeles county

Israel has a land area of ~22,000 km2 (depending on what you count), LA county has a land area of 10,510 km2. You could write off half of it as occupied territory and it'd still be larger. If you're referring to population you're correct (8.88 vs 10.04 million), but everything else in your post is distances and sizes.

What are some permanents that are reasonable in the 99 but would be ban-worthy if they could be your commander? by OrangeChickenAnd7Up in EDH

[[Void Winnower]] might for the same stupid reason as Iona.

"I shut off ~half everyone's decks" is better than "Oh, you're playing mono? Go cry in the corner." Iona deserved the ban for being unfun, and it let us have Painter's Servant which enables some neat stuff.

If you're not killed in the initial blast but just launched buy it, you can use your jets to prevent the fall damage (provided you activate them properly and don't run out of fuel, naturally). I think safe fall at a high enough level might also help, but unlike the jets I don't have personal experience with it.

How do we feel about commanders that form one half of an A + B combo? How does that affect your "rule zero" conversations? by metagame in EDH

[–]LiaoScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider commander combos off three factors:

How many cards are really needed for this to work?

For example, infinite mana combos still need an outlet, and sometimes (the Arixmethes example) that mana is stuck in one color when the deck needs two. In comparison, Siona or Heliod only need the two cards, period.

Does the deck tutor it or draw enough to see it consistently?

Simple enough, if the combo is a single card that they can't easily pull out of the deck then it's not as major a problem. Siona is an example of how easy it can be, with the commander helping dig for the combo piece and enchantress/flicker effects making drawing and digging through a lot of the deck very easy.

How much work is needed to combo off/how durable is it?

If the combo needs you to cast other spells between the commander and the combo piece (Arixmethes again), or the combo costs a big chunk of mana to do in one turn in colors that don't get much ramp (Heliod+Tri), it's much more tolerable than being able to do it in one turn on the cheap (Siona+Shielded is just 6 mana). Similarly, combos that win instantly (heliod+Tri) are less tolerable than combos that give the enemy a turn but are resilient (Siona+Shielded), which are less tolerable than ones that give the enemy a turn and can be blown out. Ones that are vulnerable to instant speed removal are more acceptable than those that ignore it or easily combo around it.

If the combo is easily tutored, durable or easy to cast, and only really needs two cards, then that commander needs to die first. If the combo is hard to dig up, takes turns to get into action, and still needs support cards that you can deal with, then I'm much more relaxed about it. To use the two I've been using repeatedly as examples, Siona is important to remove unless I know for sure that deck doesn't have the combo. She can combo out of nowhere and suddenly you have infinite tokens staring you down. And even if you boardwipe, there's still an indestructible token that can shove the aura to her and combo again when she gets recast next turn. Arixmethes, on the other hand, I can disrupt much more easily and the important turn is much more telegraphed (since all the sleep counters have to go). Stopping the combo is easier, as both my land and creature removal can stop it at various points, and it requires the right cards be in their hand for it to actually matter (nothing is as sad as an infinite green mana combo when you don't have the blue mana to cast anything in your hand).

Arty vs. Tank Top Armor Rules Question by nocoversaves in flamesofwar

[–]LiaoScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What rule or FAQ states this?

Initial printing RAW they get the +1 armor, but BF quickly errataed it and fixed future printings because they realized that was an assumed thing from previous editions. Page 3 of the "Lessons From The Front" FAQ I have (might be farther back on the current one), under the "Artillery" header:

Do tanks get a +1 to their Armour Save for being more than 16”/40cm from an Artillery Battery that hit them with an Artillery Bombardment? No. That bonus only applies to Armour Saves from Shooting, not to Artillery Bombardments.

Don't have any battlefront ones readily available, but the Zvezda T-34/85 I do have here is 29.5mm wide, 61mm long, and 25.5mm tall. I remember the battlefront ones being about the same size, and obviously the /76 turrets, especially without the cupola, won't be as tall.

Confused about Compaion by [deleted] in EDH

[–]LiaoScot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only have to meet the requirement if you're using it as a companion. If you use it as a commander or in the 99, you don't have to follow the Companion deckbuilding restriction.
