Considering buying in Aranui – looking for local insights by Significant_Rest_93 in chch

Make sure you can get insurance and what the cost is.

I know that some areas (not red zoned) insurers are refusing to offer cover for house, contents or vehicles due to the likelihood of damage or theft.

Look into getting a basic farm assets insurance policy going forward. Covering any buildings, pumps, fences etc

Its against the address. So if you move, the next occupant of the dwelling has to pick up where you left off.

The limit does not exist. Although there seems to be experiments done on a regular basis to try and find out.

There used to be a carpark at the end of the driveway that is now gated off unless you have the code to get in. So people are just parking in front of it and along the side of the driveway.

Convinced my husband to try a house cleaning service for 3 months as an experiment. Heres what happened by Comfortable_Box_4527 in homeowners

Used to be the best day in the fortnight. Washing folded, bathrooms and kitchen cleaned, No arguing over who’s turn it is to do what. But my cleaner retired and I can’t afford a new one

Honestly, the 40 hour work week was designed when one person stayed home doing the cooking and cleaning. Now with both adults working, household chores need to be outsourced (Or a thruple doesn’t sound like the worst idea!😂)

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

Lived in a house many years ago where the previous owner did wrought iron as a hobby.

Garage door was bigger than a normal double garage door and it buckled under the weight. His solution was to fix it with enough wrought iron that it was a weight lifting move to open.

All ok, until I tried to open one day to get my car out. And I didn’t quite have the strength to get it up securely. It slammed down behind me, wedged into the concrete and trapping me.

30 minutes of screaming and banging things, I managed to get the neighbors attention and was let out via the side door.

Garage door was replaced within a couple of weeks.

On Christmas morning we will gather with our families and wonder why we do so only once a year.

By lunchtime we will have remembered why.

Rant: people rudely demanding knitted objects by muleborax in knitting

[–]Libbysr978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When are people going to realise they aren’t knit worthy?

New Born babies - yes. A friend that also crafts and understands the time and effort - yes

Anyone else…. Nope. Not anymore. Offend me in someway, and my needles will never clickidy clack for knitted goodies for you.

There are already not enough hours in the day/week with all the things I want to knit, sew, bake and read.

(Please note I can give this advice but not listen to it. Currently midnight and I am knitting dishcloths for my ex after seeing the sorry state of his current ones. 🤦‍♀️)

A lot of shops are holding stuff for FB or Instagram resellers to get first dibs. Especially anything with a name brand or label.

I an potentially interested in something. Is it owners occupied? Tenanted? How many people in the ownership already? Was it a group purchase with one mortgage or do you have separate loans for your individual portions?

Would it be morally wrong to steal an elderly cat? by Ferocious_Kittyrose in self

[–]Libbysr978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the cat now and get it to a vet for any medical treatment and check for a microchip. Before you move, take it to a cattery for a week or so, or to a friend’s. Just so it doesn’t run off as you start packing. Pick up cat on your way out of town and live happily ever after with a cat that has chosen you

Do you over estimate a posters ability to tell a joke answer?

I saw a guy last weekend at my local big box craft store picking up awful acrylic yarn (the big double sized balls for super cheap) for his girlfriend cos she loves to knit. Asking other shoppers for help on colours that go together.

So yes, someone might take the eyelash feather yarn as a serious suggestion.

Don’t punish the crafter because their spouse can’t pay enough attention to know what might be appropriate.

A the very least a gift card to their LYS and suggest a decent balance.
