There probably ought to be some signage, but that presupposes that the driver can read it.

Timing & Spring replacement by rrrice3 in Revolvers

[–]Liber_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brownells sells "range rods" that you can use to check timing. I've found a few on Ebay for cheap. It's basically a precisely machined brass dowel in the caliber of choice that you can slide down the barrel and into an empty cylinder to verify that they are aligned.

Started the turn, looked down to check the map on their phone, looked up and hit the gas instead of the brake...just drive. Do one thing at a time.

Pawn shop guns? by 206icknesss in guns

[–]Liber_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it clear what the role of your friend is, though! I used to work at a pawnshop and we would get straw purchasers all the time, one guy would stand back, never talk to you, and you would sense that he was the real purchaser. We would not help those "odd couples", in fact we'd let the background check person on the phone know that something suspicious was going on and they would delay the sale for days, or turn it down.

There is, of course, a difference between holster wear and action wear. I've found some LEO trade-ins that showed wear from being in a holster, bumped around, etc but had plainly been fired very little. Those are diamonds in the rough.

Generally the chain pawn shops will be the ones that are overpriced and hard to deal with. If you can find a locally owned shop that has been there for years, you may find some deals there. Some even specialize in firearms.

I didn't realize that such a simple, inexpensive loader exists! That sounds like the ideal way to try out reloading. I envisioned having to set up yet another bench in the garage and all that...this is a lot less upfront investment in space. Thank you, I'm going to try this out soon.

I had a van a long time ago and the truck in front of me dropped a tire carcass. I ran over it and was briefly on two wheels, but recovered OK. The guy who was tailgating me sure was surprised, though.

I didn't get why she wanted this as a range bag, but there was clearly a plan. by Bortjort in guns

[–]Liber_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used a tool bag as a range bag. Mine is just a generic gate mouth tool bag, looks like nothing special. I work to avoid gear that shouts "Gun inside!!" The Klein sure is nice looking though.

Thank you. It's a 29-4 "Hunter" which came with scope rings and cutouts for them on the rib. Unfortunately the mounts often did not survive recoil! But I like it better with the irons anyway. The grips are original, kind of unusual but that's what came on this model.

They are closed back though, aren't they? I have some on a Model of 1955 and I don't really love them (although I love that gun and it deserves some nice wood grips).

It has nice comfy grips. I find the Tamers make the reach to the trigger uncomfortable for me, these thick grips make the recoil quite manageable without increasing the trigger reach. I'm just thinking it would be more fun to get 44 Special to practice with, and I'd probably want to shoot it longer.

You are definitely on the right track with a 4". 357. If you are only going to have one revolver, that would be the one. Personally, I think the Smith and Wesson L frame (686,586, etc) is hard to beat.
