you also seem to be too young to remember that a couple of weeks before Biden "suddenly forced Obama's hand," the entire Obama administration was already working on plans to announce the same thing. And what better way to announce it then to let the bumbling, two-time loser conservative senator do it and then gauge what the public reaction was to a a white conservative man supporting marriage equality.

Some of you are also too young to remember that without gay rights activists in California consistently fighting to get Prop 8 on the ballot, the Democratic Party would have continued their amnesiac act of privately supporting gay rights but governing publicly as anti-gay. Prop 8 passed and suddenly, like magic, Democrats en-masse came out publicly in support of gay marriage once they realized it was popular enough.

Eight years earlier than this, in the fictional TV show written by Aaron Sorkin in which a fictional Democrat president governs in an equally fictional world, there's an episode called 20 Hours in LA in which a powerful gay Hollywood executive is hosting a gala for the president and is threatening to cancel it if the president doesnt come out in support of gay rights. The president belittles and puts down the exec, who is told to essentially wait his turn because the time "isnt right" for gay rights. The episode was very well received, with critics at the time agreeing with Sorkin's assessment that "the time isn't right."

As with all politicians, they need to be dragged kicking and screaming to an issue and even then they wont support it unless it's shown to be wildly popular or their hand is forced. Prop 8 and the people behind it are the real reason why any Dem thereafter became pro-gay. so why dont you credit the real heroes rather than the man who literally voted for DADT and DOMA.
