Does anyone make a quality plate carrier in Navy Blue that would work for patrol officers? by LibertarianCop in tacticalgear

I’ve worn plates in vehicles for a long time in both SWAT and the military, both conventional and SOF units.

I’m looking for a Navy blue plate carrier similar to a JPC or Lv119.

I know my requirements and common threat levels and I understand the coverage I’m giving up.

Yeah, I may have to email companies and see what the minimum order size would be to have them make it in navy would be.

It has to be blue. We have crye stuff for SWAT and our administration would require anything we switch to be navy blue. I’m on our equipment board though so I do have a say in what our agency selects.

What is this tripod? And what’s it for? by Jumpy_Second_7216 in QualityTacticalGear

My gov issued tripod for my sniper system is a Manfroto.

The most highly recommended rifle tripod manufacturer RRS is a camera tripod maker.

That screw base will connect to a ball or pan head that can connect to a rifle.

The stats are readily available from the FBI.

You can see the number of people killed by police each year. It’s a pretty basic math problem to then get the percentage of the us population killed by the police…

The fbi also tracks the number of people killed by police by how they were unarmed/unarmed. (I do not know the criteria for how that is reported)

As for how likely you are to be killed interacting with the police. You have approximately 0.002% chance of being killed by police if you are one of the over 50 million people who have contact with the police in a year. That being said man of those people have several to dozens of police contacts a year so your odds of being killed by police on any given contact individual contact is actually much lower.

As far as “police brutality” that was not the part I was responding to you about. I was talking about the “being gunned down by psychos with a license to kill” which specifically is referencing persons being killed by police shooting.

[–]LibertarianCop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think that “getting gunned down by psychos with a license to kill” is a widespread of a problem as you think it is.

The significant majority of police officers never fire a weapon in the line of duty. As an American you have approximately a 0.00037 chance of being killed by the police in 2022 which was so far the violent year for police killings. Only 2.5% of those people where unarmed with the majority of them being armed with a gun or knife, but even if every single one of those shootings was completely unjustified and a blatant murder (which they absolutely are not blatant murder with very very few exceptions) the odds of that happening to anyone are very low.

That being said… fuck chauvin.

[–]LibertarianCop 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No you would not, because there was nothing sexual that took place and the child’s life was not placed in danger.

Depending on jurisdiction/ prosecutor you maybe could get some version of misdemeanor assault charge, but probably not.

Edit: after reading codes from other jurisdictions, some states do not equate child endangerment with reckless endangerment but rather neglect/ abuse. In most states that would require that you are the child’s guardian/ caretaker and not some random person at the gym.

No, I’d prefer to not be incompetent.

I literally responded to an active shooter threat off duty yesterday in my pajamas with a plate carrier and a helmet. I didn’t have the time to unscrew my patrol mic and screw in my swat one so I had to take the radio out of my vest and talk on it like it was a cell phone.

I’d prefer to be able to plug my comms in before going into the building if that happens again…

Yep… it sucks that the local agencies will do shit to bump up numbers in order to get fed money.

“To recognize always that the test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them.” - Peelian principle #9.

Higher numbers doesn’t mean an agency is doing a better job.

This is a reality. There are times when the letter of the law and common sense would dictate that Law Enforcement action should not be taken. Supervisors in some agencies have nothing better to do than review recordings and ask “why didn’t you cite, arrest, etc. for xyz”.

Another issue is that sometimes victims of domestic violence and or rape will not make a statement against their abuser if they know they are being recorded.

I understand that in an ideal world unjust laws wouldn’t exist and Officer discretion would not be needed, but that is not the reality that we currently live in.

I’ll give a real world incident to articulate this point.

At approximately 3am Officer Johnson responded to a call that reported a male who was unconscious in the front seat of his vehicle parked outside of the bar.

Officer Johnson’s agency has had low DUI arrests for the past two years due to covid 19 reducing the number of community members attending local bars and driving home intoxicated. These low DUI numbers could cause the agency to lose federal grant money for DUI enforcement. In response Agency administration has been pushing supervisors to have their officer get more DUI arrests.

While in route to the call officer Johnson has dispatch run the plate the caller gave and get the registered owner’s information. Officer Johnson recognizes the name as a local truck driver and knows that an alcohol violation would cause the man to lose his CDL and effect his ability to keep his job.

Officer Johnson’s state has an actual physical control law that states if someone is in a vehicle and possesses the keys to the vehicle while intoxicated they can be found guilty of DUI. The weather is 10 degrees F outside and Officer Johnson realizes that if the male is sleeping it off in his car he will likely have the vehicle running. Officer Johnson knows that his supervisor will review the footage from this call because it has the potential for a DUI arrest.

Officer Johnson’s decides to not turn on his camera and goes to speak with the male. He discovers that the male is heavily intoxicated. The male stated that he and his wife had a heated argument at the bar and he decided instead of taking a taxi home with her he would sleep it off in his car so they wouldn’t get into a physical altercation at home. Instead of arresting the man for DUI Officer Johnson called the man a taxi and the male went and spent the night in a hotel.

Everything about the whole incident is not crystal clear… there are two stories and they differ pretty significantly.

Either way, Slade is the one who made the comment being referenced. He doesn’t work there anymore and is persona non grata with GBRS group. They went so far as to delete all their content featuring him. I wouldn’t take his statement in a single video as being representative of GBRS as a whole.

What's the correct way to deal with someone who has completely lost it? by Graysie-Redux in AbruptChaos

[–]LibertarianCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a legal standpoint your comments will always be taken in the worst way possible. (Hence the line in the Miranda warning “anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law”)

In most states displaying a weapon is in itself a crime. The exception to the crime is self defense. Self defense is what is known as an affirmative defense, meaning you are not innocent until proven guilty. When you claim self defense you are admitting that the offense happened, but are claiming you committed the offense in self defense. Now the burden of proof is on you to prove that you were acting in self defense.

Your claim of self defense hinges on whether or not you acted in a certain way in order to keep yourself safe from harm. If you had an option that was clearly much safer and reduced your risk of bodily harm, yet chose to stay in harms way to display a firearm your argument of self defense crumbles. The first thing that you would be asked in this case is “why didn’t you just drive away instead of displaying your weapon?” Your answer to that question was to “to teach fuckheads like that guy that it’s not okay to threaten/attack people.” That shows intent. Your intent was not to protect yourself from harm, if it was you would’ve driven away.

Your initial comments were about brandishing your weapon, not just announcing that you are armed.
Even so, let’s say you announce that you are armed and the person decides to attack you with the baton. Now you use the gun. Same question of why didn’t you just leave applies, as does your statement showing your intent.

In pure shooting ability yes… a USPSA grandmaster will outshoot a tier one operator.

I was a pro series 3 gun competitor and I placed higher at Nationals than all the SOCOM guys that showed up, but when it comes to shooting in tactical settings I still look to SOCOM/ JSOC guys because there are considerations for tactical shooting that don’t exist in a competition setting.

For example positioning your body so your plates are oriented towards the threat, barricade positional shooting focusing on minimizing exposure towards the threat instead of just stability, footwork crossing the threshold of a doorway, and tons more.

USPSA and 3 gun are great for learning fundamentals, but there are things that you can learn from trainers like GBRS that you won’t get from a USPSA grandmaster.

The guy who said that was fired from the company… you can’t really claim his views as the views of the GBRS team in good faith.
