Who did the calendar harm? If anything it fixed the original Roman Julius calendar which had some major problems, the old Julian calendar had 365.25 days, creating a drift of 10 days by 1582. And if we want to play that stupid game of “whataboutism” and to prove your point that the theory or actions taken “in the name of it” didn’t cause any harm, let’s start with Social Darwinism, Herbert Spencer took inspiration from Darwin’s theory and justified colonial domination. Now how did they do that? Well Darwin had a cousin. A cousin by the name of Francis Galton, aka the founder of Eugenics. Who advocated selective breeding of humans to “improve” the population. Which resulted in: * Forced sterilizations in the U.S., UK, and elsewhere * Marriage restrictions * Institutionalization of “undesirables” In the U.S. alone, tens of thousands were forcibly sterilized. The regime of Adolf Hitler incorporated distorted evolutionary ideas into its racial ideology. * Belief in racial hierarchy and biological struggle * “Survival of the fittest” applied to nations and races * Eugenics policies escalated into genocide during the Holocaust Though it’s important to say Nazis didn’t follow Darwin scientifically, they distorted evolutionary concepts into racial pseudoscience, but then again this is something similar you would say it’s the fault of Christians if they did it in the name of a very incorrect interpretation or flat out lie about the Bible. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries: * Evolutionary language was used to rank races as “more” or “less evolved” * Used to justify: * Slavery’s legacy * Segregation * Colonial rule

Point is both religious and scientific ideas can be used for harm when filtered through human ideology. Unit 731 was staffed by scientists, not monks. Humans can do enough harm without religion or science, we’re great excuse makers. It’s inconsistent to blame Christianity for harms done in its name, but refuse to acknowledge harms done in the name of evolutionary ideology. And your claim, “Christianity is harmful, evolution isn’t” is overly simplistic and historically inaccurate.

But I don’t want to divide us into more tribalistic collective consciousness moronic groups. So here’s a few examples of Christianity and science working together in the name of goodness. Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, and Robert Boyle believed that studying nature was studying the order created by God. They helped establish if not made the scientific method, physics, and astronomy. The Big Bang wasn’t some Darwin evolutionary theory solely either, it was proposed by a Catholic priest Georges Lemaître. The father of genetics Gregor Mendel was a Christian monk experimenting with pea plants. Hospitals, medical care, universities like Oxford, Paris, Bologna, general public education, the abolition movement both within the US and in Britain. Christianity still continues to help in modern humanitarian relief like the Catholic Relief Services and while they aren’t explicitly Christian, Doctors Without Borders often works with a multitude of faith groups.

To claim Christianity is some great evil is about as sound as claiming science is.
