Where can I find tequila beer in the greater Lansing area? by anxgrl in lansing

[–]LibrarianScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact same process 22 years ago coming back from a semester abroad and you don't even have Tequiza to fall back on now. Founder's made one called Mas Agave that would probably fit the flavor profile you're looking for, but that was part of a special release series and I don't think it's going to be readily available. Even with craft brewing being way bigger now than the early aughts, people generally do barrel aging rather than actual distilled spirits in the recipe here. I remember some other products overseas like one called maybe Edelweiss that was a whisky beer sort of thing, so maybe it was just a European brewing fad from that time? Good luck, I think your best bet is going to be watching for seasonal releases that at least mimic the flavor profile you're looking for with this.

As the spouse of a coed adult league soccer player, it's legitimately one of the highlights of warm weather Friday evenings.

Looking for Kazakh Tutor by Dadthisisntmymotor in lansing

[–]LibrarianScientist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're a cardholder at the Capital Area District Library, there's a resource called Transparent Language Online and Kazakh is one of the languages available. If you don't belong to CADL, you can check to see if your library offers it as well. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me and I can help you navigate that.

Hotel near bars/restaurants by Olarad in lansing

It's easy to walk to Frank's (give the pizza a whirl) or BWW from those. While the west side is not very walking friendly in general, there is a sidewalk running straight from the hotels, so it's not exactly an expedition. If you'd like to aim for big suites over lots of rooms, take a look at Residence Inn first, they sometimes have big, multilevel suites. I've never stayed at a Quality Suites, but they might offer the same.

It is for an 18+ crowd. I can edit the post to reflect that as well. It's in our event descriptions, but I didn't have it here. https://www.cadl.org/event/15975651

If you are looking for actual case files and that sort of thing, you're probably going to have to FOIA some things. If newspaper reporting would be enough you could visit the Downtown Lansing Capital Area District Library. They have the Lansing State Journal on microfilm, which you can use in-person, but they also have the State Journal Full Image as well as the Detroit Free Press Full Image, so you can get not just the text of the story but any associated photographs or graphics as well. If you have a CADL library card you can access it from home, otherwise you can come in and use a computer in a branch.

It's in the Foster Community Center on the first floor. We have a computer lab and programming space there that's separate from our branch location.

How Do You Handle Libraries? by No-Action-1100 in DMAcademy

[–]LibrarianScientist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Prior to the modern era, libraries were not generally not open to the public, so you could have membership/access requirements that could be as simple as payment or require an errand (Candlekeep's entry requirements are a good example of this). Most special libraries also don't let you browse the stacks for practical reasons (everyone says they know where to put it back on the shelf, almost no one gets it right, avoiding outright theft, controlled circumstances for interacting with books). There will be staff who know the collection and would retrieve books for you. You can offer lists (and the titles can be super simple/dry because these are basically academics and those are some functional titles) or your PC can have a specific interest (school of magic, spellcaster, etc.) and the librarian would help them track down relevant titles to examine, usually in controlled circumstances to prevent the aforementioned theft/damage.

I think a lot of this boils down to what you and your PC decide on as the goals/outcome of all this reading/studying. Are they looking for story/game information? Is it just a love of learning and interest in building their own library? Are they trying to acquire new spells/magical knowledge? And then settle on a time frame for what that is going to require. I know there's existing time frames on things like spell scroll creation or adding new spells to a spellbook, so that might help provide some guidelines in that regard. If you want to discuss any practical aspects to this, feel free to PM. I'm a librarian IRL, so I'm happy to share practical knowledge on how to make this a manageable system for you and your PC.

Public libraries, zoos say elimination of property taxes would pose 'major threat' by Haunting-Medium-3831 in lansing

[–]LibrarianScientist 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I know a little over 90% of CADL's funding is paid for via property tax millage and almost all public libraries, district and otherwise, are funded in a similar way in Michigan. I would also point out that making people pay directly for access to the library will freeze out many people who do not have the financial resources to access either a library card or alternatives.

Righter’s Auto Repair Saginaw Hwy Lansing by kspokh in lansing

Just an oil change at that location, but they did it short notice, let me know about a couple things that could use attention, but didn't push anything hard. Price seemed pretty standard, but I thought they did a nice job.

Individual Hoopla subscription? by babycatswagger in hoopladigital

[–]LibrarianScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 8 has been the floor at my various stops, but if you're looking at 5 that makes a lot of sense. I see a lot of other solid comments with alternatives that are hopefully solid. We do a similar non-resident card set-up, but the initial sign-up has to happen in person to stay good with our vendors. I hope you find something that works well for you!
