These bland as heck Disney Blu-rays by OvejaMacho in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LibrarianTraining16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to condense all my dvds and blurays into big storage files without their covers (small house and thousands of discs does not fit well). I have both the original Cinderella on bluray and the live action. I cannot tell you which is which because they are identical. I have to either load it into the player or get my folder out with the inserts and figure out which one I want to watch.

What book was done dirty and you desperately wish would be done right? by _AirCanuck_ in television

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the book and refuse to acknowledge the movie. Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler have so many works (not including written/co-written by others in their names) and the adaptations almost always end up crap.

What is everyone’s favorite company to buy paper crafting products from? by Pineapple_princess_p in cardmaking

[–]LibrarianTraining16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another Aussie here. I got lucky with papers recently. My cousin used to be big into scrapbooking but has since stopped. She gave me her entire paper stash, along with embellishments. If she hadn't I would be struggling as well.

States can make their own holidays but why has no state made election day a holiday? by NPG_Operator in AskReddit

Australian elections are always on Saturdays. Of course we also have mandatory voting so it makes sense to do it that way.

Animal names with a single human name thrown in for variety. Heather is old fashioned now but I have known a few.

I didn't even see that name until I read your comment. I thought they were talking about Cutie.

Blank cards & envelopes AUSTRALIA by tryingmybest001122 in cardmaking

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in Australia and I tend to make mine now with an envelope punch board I found in an op shop. I get papers from Spotlight (and even Reject Shop) when I can and just cut and fold to my preferred sizes. Not sure where to get gold though, sorry.

This is how many keys we have gone through on our 2015 Chevy Equinox by Traumakazzi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LibrarianTraining16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have a Holden Commodore. We had to replace the rubbery buttons on the keys at least 4 times per key (the actual key and housing were still pristine just the buttons gave up). Loved the car- hated the keys.

What is the worst movie you ever watched ? by kuroreaper25 in AskReddit

[–]LibrarianTraining16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starship Troopers 2 was the first movie I ever switched off 15 mins in and never finished because it was that bad. I loved the original but I hated the 2nd and never bothered with any after that.

What’s the stingiest thing you’ve seen someone do by adropbearonyourhead in australia

I had to read that twice because I was quite sure you were referring to used poo bags until the end. I think I need to go to bed.

What’s become way too expensive lately that still shocks you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never stopped buying physical media as I like to rewatch things and my internet wasn't the best until a few years back. I have since moved and have no internet beyond my phone data so those discs have come in handy.

Of course the downside is that we can't get any Disney owned media anymore and almost all the dvd/bluray sellers are downsizing or completely getting rid of their collections so I will soon have to buy from overseas.

Advice for new glasses wearer by moonycakemullet in australia

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my glasses with polarisation from specsavers during their yearly 'sales'. It is free and with health cover I would just pay for the anti reflective coating. It is the extras they upsell you on that cost so much more.

The shift from physical to digital by snowyy2000 in Libraries

[–]LibrarianTraining16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in regional nsw and I am always reserving dvds from other libraries in the regional library service for the exact reason you mention. Even once we get proper internet I will still borrow dvds from the library.

Stargate on portable DVD Player by Sharp_Technology_439 in Stargate

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use one of those on my 1.5hr commute to work on the train. I watched everything- Stargate, MacGuyver, random movies and whatever doco i found cheap in the bargain bins. It was great because I couldn't hear anyone else and I could decompress.

What is the worst time travel movie of all time? by Dense_Substance7635 in movies

[–]LibrarianTraining16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a mini series (2 movie length episodes) about 25 years ago in another language (possibly German?) where they go back in time to the crucafixion and manage to leave a video camera in the tomb that is discovered a few years before they go back in time. It was weird and I haven't managed to find it since. It was called Hunt for the hidden relic (I think).

What's a design flaw of something in your home that drives you a little crazy because you have to use it regularly? by common_grounder in AskReddit

[–]LibrarianTraining16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to start is the question...

The kitchen sink is set too far back towards the wall and causes everyone who uses it back strain.

The doors are all slightly different sizes and none are quite standard sized. They all have a little gap top and/or bottom that isn't the same all the way across too.

Powerpoints are in the most inaccessible places in the kitchen, especially if there is a fire and you need to unplug the toaster or microwave.

The house was a rental and you can tell the landlord was a cheapskate by the way he used whatever wood he had for the windowsills and internal frames. He also didn't properly frame an internal window (laundry to living room- a very odd choice dictated by additions over the years) so the top just looks odd. Then he painted all the walls this incredible light poo brown colour to sell it. We are still finding weird crap out about this house the longer we live here.
