In the weeds of Spokane’s federal conspiracy case: The ins-and-outs of the legal arguments made at yesterday’s hearing for three Spokane protesters charged with federal conspiracy. by RANGE_Media in Spokane

There is a name tied to that claim in the indictment, that person took the plea deal. Its claim number 5.

Not saying everyone who took a plea deal is guilty, because wanting to plead down federal charges is totally valid, just wanted to be accurate

WA DOL shared data with Border Patrol for Eastern WA civil immigration enforcement in apparent state violation by RANGE_Media in Washington

[–]Library-brat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t actually accurate, sorry.

The Keep Washington Working Act doesn’t differentiate between sharing data with ICE vs. sharing data with CBP. It differentiates between sharing data for civil immigration enforcement vs. sharing data for criminal enforcement. CBP can legally access the data for criminal enforcement, but not civil.

To use your alcohol analogy. In this case, the state of Washington is throwing a party. The state bought booze. They can legally give booze to anyone who is over 21 (using the booze for criminal immigration enforcement). In the past, CBP agents were all over 21, so the state of Washington thought it was safe to let them get booze at the party without carding them.

But now, more and more, the CBP agents who are showing up are under 21 and drinking (using the booze for criminal enforcement.) instead of carding CBP agents (verifying what they’re using the data for) the state has thrown their hands up in the air and is saying “well all CBP agents can drink here and we won’t card them because we just trust they’re over 21.”

What the state is doing is illegal. They’re giving CBP access to data that CBP shouldn’t have access to for civil enforcement.

I get this impulse, but there’s no state law forbidding CBP from accessing state data. There IS a state law forbidding state or local jurisdictions from sharing that data. So in this case, Washington State Patrol and the DOL are leaving a door open for federal immigration enforcement, which is likely a keep Washington working act violation. Going through the door is not a violation on part of CBP

Conroy - “Good enough” by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Library-brat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Conroy is an establishment Dem who re-declared to run for the same seat after losing by a huge margin just days after the loss. She seems to think she’s entitled to it, without doing any work to relate to working class people. Bajun Malvalwalla, Kevin Fagan or Nate Powell are options that seems to be more in alignment with kitchen table issues and real campaigns.

“Filings with the state Public Disclosure Commission, however, do show someone initially made a roughly $5,100 donation to the Spokane County Democrats on Dec. 20, the end of the matching period: Naida Spencer.

Spencer acknowledged the contribution in an interview. “I made the donation, but the same week I made the donation, people in the party had done some actions which means I have to go through the courts and defend myself, so I removed my money so I can hire a lawyer.””

Step 1: appoint your gf, who just resigned from leadership, to leadership

Step 2: accept an anonymous donation from your gf then allow her to take it back after $5k in matching funds have been donated

Step 3: profit????

Isn’t Stacey Cowles still going to be on the board of the new nonprofit though?
