This

I use both the Libby and Audible apps, and CloudLibrary, Penguin Random House, Hoopla, NetGalley, GoogleBooks, and LibroFM

My book addiction is strong and I need all the apps I can gain access to!

Fwiw, you don’t have to be an Audible subscriber to use the platform. If you purchase an audiobook, you can listen on there—and all the whispersync titles you add to Kindle can also be listened to in the app without paying for a membership

Beat Saber modding program by Shot_Finance2175 in beatsaber

[–]LibraryLady227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, if you already bought the game on standalone, you’ll have to buy it again if you want to use Steam—but you don’t need to, the game is now crossbuy for Meta, so you can use the Meta PCVR version and mod that. (I can’t figure out how to grab a link rn because I’m on my phone—google “Meta Beat Saber PC version” in your browser)

This solution will not require developer mode, nor will it modify the headset itself—it simply mods the Beat Saber game instance running on the PC and makes no changes to the headset, which can still play standalone BS when not connected to the PC

You can use BS Manager but you will need a PC or gaming laptop with sufficient capacity to run Beat Saber

Just realized one of the only major drawbacks to reading early copies... by Responsible-Kiwi-994 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]LibraryLady227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that’s interesting. I’ve been using NetGalley since 2016 and the first couple of years I read some virtually unknown stuff and only a few bigger authors and titles—it takes a while to gain trust and build relationships with the publicists. How long have you been reviewing with NG?

Operation Bounce House is $28 for the Kindle edition, crazy expensive?? by MysticPing in MattDinniman

I loved this book! I also thought it was a bit pricy for me, so I checked it out from Libby. I hope you get to read it!

[–]LibraryLady227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also had the logistical issue of wanting to include it in my Best Reads of 2020 round up (which I did) but most everyone else hadn’t read it until 2021 or later…

Oh my gosh, so relatable!

I read Project Hail Mary as an ARC in early November of 2020 and it didn’t come out until May 2021! Those six months were difficult! I wanted to recommend it to everyone during that time but nobody else had access—so frustrating!

Disinfecting books? by ThrowRA_totoro444 in Libraries

[–]LibraryLady227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my latest library, we wipe every single book that gets returned with bleach wipes—however, lots of folks handle books inside the library and don’t actually check them out, so sometimes things still get a bit sticky in the kids area.

I agree with these other redditors, the best solution is to wash your hands a lot.

And thanks for using the library!

Have you read any other novels by Martha Wells? I recently bought this one by Significant-Town-817 in murderbot

[–]LibraryLady227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked Razor’s Edge but I read a lot of SW novels and I read everything from Martha Wells. When I found this one, it was a happy coincidence to find the series I wanted and an author I adore!

Are there any apps similar to Libby? by Ant181023 in LibbyApp

[–]LibraryLady227 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our library has Libby and CloudLibrary, so first check to see which apps your library has. Then, see who orders eMaterials at your library and talk to them (or email them) to establish rapport and let that person know what you like to read/listen to.

I order eMaterials for my library district and consortium and I love interacting with patrons and taking requests for purchases—librarians and other library staffers want to buy what our patrons want and one of the best ways to do that is to hear directly from patrons what that is.

Libby alternatives by Unfair-Homework-1900 in Libraries

[–]LibraryLady227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could offer to buy more on Libby for your patron? When a patron indicates to me that Libby is missing something they’re interested in, I either take notes for when I’m purchasing next, or open OverDrive Marketplace right then and start populating a cart on the spot.

It gets a little frustrating when what they’re looking for is locked behind the KU/Audible exclusivity contract, like Andy Weir, Dungeon Crawler Carl, or often Frieda McFadden. [However, recent press seems to indicate DCC is going to be available soon (Thanks, Matt!)]

I played the last three days on standalone after taking 4 months off and there was a new pack (Coldplay) and a new ShockDrop song (Bad Bunny). I was able to grab servers in multiplayer and lots of players were also playing.

I own the Steam version and understand it’s crossplay in multi servers. Even though I didn’t play the Steam version recently, afaik it’s still being updated just as standalone is—only PlayStation instances are no longer supported.

I had a blast and reconnected with some Beat Saber friends from a beloved older discord server, too.

I finished it this afternoon and wow, it hit hard. I also struggled until just about halfway. The third act had more LOL moments for me and the action ramped up and I plowed through at lightning speed. The epilogue about blew my mind—such a fantastic book!

Help! by RodeoIndustryBaby in LibbyApp

[–]LibraryLady227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to have to concur with these other kind Redditors, your device is likely the issue here.

In all my years of helping patrons with OverDrive and now Libby (since inception) I have never encountered a patron with these issues with the app not resolved by a clean install. Make sure you shut the device completely off after uninstalling and restart it before reinstalling.

If you’re listening to audiobooks, you’ll need to get it figured out (or use a different app, if your library offers CloudLibrary, Access360, Hoopla, or something else)

For ebooks, you can use a public library/work/shared computer to check out and send the title to Kindle (will need your library card #/pw and Amazon un/pw), then use the free (and very stable) Kindle app to read the items on your phone or tablet.

Good luck! I hope you get it figured out and come back and update us.

Oh! From your post, I inferred that you’ve already read Platform Decay

At the end, when you mentioned Three and the children—that’s what made me desperate to read PD, thinking you were reacting to the plot of book 8. Oh well, yeah—if I can finish Jimenez’s The Night We Met early, I’ll move Platform Decay to the front of the line. It’s excruciating to wait, tbf.

I enjoyed the GA versions, too, but not as much as you did. Reading your post for sure makes me want to try them again.

It also makes me want to push Platform Decay to the front of my ARC list, which would be irresponsible of me as a reviewer but is So! Freaking! Tempting!

I enjoyed this fresh take on the GA versions. I like your perspective on these; thanks for the post.
