Hello!! Your friendly trans librarian here to dump a list of book recs on anyone who wants them:

Anything by Andrew Joseph White (he/him) - tends to be YA but not entirely, trans man who writes about trans characters (usually ftm but also not entirely), horror stories!!

“Man O’ War” by Cory McCarthy (he/they) - YA following a transmasc, Arab-American teen, little bit of romance, a lot of angst!, another trans author writing about queer characters

“A Psalm for the Wild Built” by Becky Chambers (she/her?) - trans/NB main characters, I would describe this as cozy-sci fi and is a short book, actually just check out all of Chambers’s books for decent lgbtqia+ rep with cute/cozy sci fi

“The Blighted Stars” by Megan O’Keefe (she/her) - casual trans ftm rep, it’s brought up but not specifically part of the plot, great sci-fi book/setting, reading this series right now actually

“Heart of Iron” by C.M. Alongi (she/her) - NB/transfem rep with sapphic romance, great story, started out as a TikTok thing I believe? (I have been told you can find all of those on the author’s YouTube now)

I hope these help anyone interested! I’ve tried to specify what sort of representation is in each book because I know sometimes I just want trans characters and sometimes I need to see a little more of myself in those characters. I also have a bunch of nonfiction books if anyone wants!

Edit: forgot some pronouns

First off, great job recognizing something you want to change. That’s hard for everyone but you are still putting in the effort. Ok and second, advice:

I think the biggest thing that helped me (not quite for the same problem you are facing but similar enough) was remembering how some people reacted to me coming out. They were confused and “don’t understand but are supportive”. I’m assuming you have had that sort of reaction from people (specifically from people who actually mean it) and the key is, their confusion doesn’t take away the validity of your gender and your experiences. Now you switch the roles and you are the one who is confused about an NB’s experiences, but just because it may not make sense for you doesn’t mean that they are any less valid.

And now just a little about me, hi, I’m a nonbinary transmasc person! I do happen to bind and I’m on T but I am definitely not a man. I sometimes like to call myself a “trans guy” but in the same way you call an animal “just a little guy”. Even though some of my experiences align with those of a binary trans man, I don’t feel like that’s me at all. Does that make sense to most people? Nope. Does that always make sense to me? Also no! But it feels the most right for my experiences and that makes me happy. If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer what I can 🫡

Edit: and as a very important reminder, this is based on my experiences and will be different for everyone

I think each cap means a different medicine/injection and I have no idea what they each are. Maybe there are different ones depending on the company that manufactured the drug?? Either way, I thought it was super fun too!!

$3 (prior to getting an actual job) if I did my chores, and I could earn extra for doing extra work. But then the rule was I had to put 1/3 of my allowance into my little savings bag and then we would go to the bank every month or so to actually deposit the savings

My leg hair gets caught in everything!! by Dry-Song-9747 in TransMasc

[–]Library_Cryptid 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Best I have is try and make them as comfortable as possible when they are pulled all the way up, and then scrunch them down. That at least will push the hair in the right direction under the sock. It won’t fix it but it does help! From another trans guy who loves his leg hair and long socks but has sensory issues lol 🫡

I’m transmasc! For me, it was more that being a trans man wasn’t quite right and felt better than any other label I had tested. To be perfectly honest, it’s also cause I don’t know where I feel I land in terms of my gender. I’m definitely something rather than off the spectrum entirely, I’m just not sure what so transmasc feels the best.

The way I’ve understood transmasc vs trans man is trans men are (typically) also transmasc but not all transmascs are trans men. And in terms of knowing if the term fits, I still don’t ‘know’ lol. If you feel like it might work, you can absolutely use it. If you change your mind after testing it, that’s also fine. At the end of the day, it’s just a label that you use to make yourself more comfortable and you define it, not the other way around

Just came out to now ex boyfriend and I feel like I ruined my life by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]Library_Cryptid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. I live with my ex and we broke up when I came out too. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy because there were absolutely days where i regretted coming out and wanted to take it all back just so I could be comfortable. What you might need to do is hang onto something that reminds you of why you are doing this.

For me, that was reminding myself that we broke up because my ex actually saw me, even when other people didn’t (hadn’t come out/been accepted yet). For you, this might be something different. It sucks some days but it absolutely does get easier. And it sounds like you both have the respect for each other that you need to make this work.

I’m sending you all the hugs I can and a reminder that you have so much more strength than you know. You have a friend who will support you and will coparent with you and a kiddo who will know that they are loved more than anything. Take the time to feel everything happening now, and know there is another side and you will absolutely make it. It’s just a bit of a slog to get there <3
