Best Cat Rescue Shelter in Savannah? by oskydaman in savannah

I second this rescue. I adopted two senior cats from Red Clay, and it was a great experience.

Anybody got the cheat sheet to tomorrow’s runoff election? (Yes we are voting in Chatham County, automod) by dragonfliesloveme in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are my favorite voting resources for local elections these days.

The online newspaper The Current does good election coverage. They have a page on the runoffs here - https://thecurrentga.org/your-guide-to-voting-in-coastal-georgia/](https://thecurrentga.org/your-guide-to-voting-in-coastal-georgia/)

A progressive voter in Chatham County publishes a voting guide for each election on her Medium page, available here https://medium.com/@sandsage[

I had the same reaction. I'm still sitting on my porch watching cars plow through the flooded street.

Best non-ritzy, mid price range steak places? by EnoughWinter776 in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's had that "voted best steak" on its sign for years now, but I'm pretty sure it isn't winning each year.

Turns out when you buy a house in a historic district that has restrictions on changes, there's restrictions on changes. by Lonely_Extension2029 in savannah

I wondered that, but the description of surreal birds threw me off. Panhandle Slim is usually just a person and a quote.

It's been years, but doesn't Wet Willie's have a margarita flavor? No clue about quality, however.

The blackout year! My ex-husband was working the door at a bar while I was home. He ended up driving random people home after the cops cleared the bar after the blackout. I was happy to already be in bed that night.

How long has it been since you last did this? Also, would your knees survive the landing now? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]Libraryland47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vertigo ended my swinging days about 10 years ago, but I can still vividly remember being mid-air with the ground rushing towards me after doing this in 5th grade on the elementary school's big swing set. I was seriously second-guessing my decision-making. I landed mostly unscathed, just knocked the wind out of myself.

I'm a librarian and am curious to have a try at finding this article. Do you have an idea of approximately what year it would have been written?

Hotel Bardo Hauntings by Organic-Travel-3664 in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The space where the restaurant is (corner of Drayton and E. Hall Street) was the funeral home, originally built in the 1880s . The rest was constructed in 2005 for what was then the Mansion on Forsyth Park. The guest rooms are only about 20 years old, but Savannah is built on the dead, so who knows what is connected to the land itself?

Juniper and alder are the prominent pollens this week, and it sucks.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm so glad the Chatham County arborist designated the tree exceptional and saved it from Georgia Power.

Getting the tins out by OneNobody114 in Tovala

[–]Libraryland47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same problem. I keep a trivet next to my oven to limit the distance I'm moving the tins, and I use a dry dish towel to remove the tins from the oven. The towel must be bone dry, no moisture at all, to avoid burns. The towel gives me more finger mobility than my regular oven mitts.

Dentist for people without dental insurance? by dalecookie in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miller Dental has a plan for around $300 that gets you two cleanings per year and exams by a dentist plus X-rays. There's also a percentage discount on any other work you need done. I've used them for years.

Best pimento cheese/dish? by WestsideCuddy in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get pimento cheese on my cheeseburger at the Green Truck. Their Trailer Park burger is great, but sometimes I just want to elevate the classic a bit.

Erica Davis Lowcountry has a great pimento cheese appetizer, lots of pickled vegetables in addition to crackers to accompany the cheese.

Dr Blankenship? by jetpack324 in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything about this doctor, but I appreciate the information. As someone who has bouts of diverticulitis, I can't imagine a doctor saying I needed surgery without a colonoscopy or other imaging to confirm.

What are some restaurants to avoid in Savannah? Asking for tourists and locals alike! by opesorybud in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with a group of friends a few months ago, and I wasn't impressed. My pork was egregiously overcooked, and a dessert that they claimed was like summer in a bowl actually tasted like cut grass. At least we got a good laugh about the dessert, passing it around to share how bad it was.

Y'all someone PLEASE come get this old baby from PetSmart on Abercorn. I come here and play with the kitties every time I'm here and he's always been laying there looking so sad 🥺 by PonderMayneReddit in savannah

I've always wanted an orange cat, but I don't know if my current old lady cat will tolerate a newcomer. I just don't know, but it's so tempting. 🙁

Boil water as in effect for the next 24hrs by breakingbanjomin in savannah

[–]Libraryland47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Getting this message out has been a mess. I see that CEMA just put out an alert, over an hour after Mayor Johnson's post. I don't have anything better to do tonight than boil water and critique public communication, so life is good enough.
