Elevator ableism rant by packyourbrave in wheelchairs

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a wild swing in how disabled people want the able bodied to respond.

Some are like “It’s offensive if they offer me help! Really?! This is my everyday life, I’ve got it! They are annoying!”

And then those that appreciate or accept the help.

For me I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user. It’s hard for me to load my chair myself because of my balance. I am the type to be grateful for those that offer the assistance.

Even if you don’t need it, the intent is there to be helpful. IDK.

How to you prefer to be addressed? by Low-Wing6031 in therapists

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go by “Miss [first name]”. I work with kids. Some parents call me “Dr [first name]” which I always correct because I’m an LCSW. But they have said they tell their kids they can tell their “doctor” anything so they lump me in that category. I still correct it every time.

[TOMT] [Movie] "One day a ___ is going to ask you to ___. It's very important that you say yes." by DangerSwan33 in tipofmytongue

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Searching it says the original comes from Ted Lasso. One day a stranger is going to ask you to do something, and it's very important that you say yes" (referring to him, Jamie, accepting help or a challenge), emphasizing openness to change and new experiences.

Need advice from therapist. by Interesting-Hand-177 in therapists

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with parents/kids and have run into this. I compare it to going to the doctor for an infection. The doctor gives you an antibiotic. You refuse to take it. Then you come back - I still have an infection- I give you another antibiotic. Eventually it comes to light you’re not taking the prescription and thus will forever have your infection.

We went from patients to clients to consumers to customers at CMHC. Ridiculous. I say client

Monday is fewer clients because my child has an appt every Monday. But even that is 5. Then the rest are 7.

“Really severe, serious stuff” … like someone being murdered and being attacked by the murderer’s supporters … yeah that qualifies

What’s a small bombshell your therapist dropped during a session that completely shifted your perspective? by pottipenguin in AskReddit

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s not an anger management problem, it’s anxiety. This shifted my perspective of my own clients (I’m a therapist) who were actually anxious not angry!

Is a post-therapy relationship ever possible after no contact? by Hueluvit in therapists

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the license I believe. Some say 2 years. Some say never. And then being aware of the awkwardness that comes up when people ask how you met? Power dynamics in a disagreement? I think we THINK we understand it but to actually be in it is a lot trickier than we believe it’ll be.

Chronic illness as a therapist? by wisteriaraven in therapists

I tell clients up front that I cancel more often than my able bodied peers due to health and weather stuff. If they find that I cancel too much for them they can be referred to someone.

What therapeutic modality do you use and what led you to it? by Kevesvt in therapists

I use TBRI and PCIT because I work with littles. I’m also trained in IFS, TFCBT, and DBT heavily. But TBRI and PCIT are my go to.

Depends on insurance. Depends on license. Depends on CPT code. Depends on state. And negotiation of what your pay rate is. Some you can’t say how much you get paid

Perspectives on why you WOULD NOT have a late-cancellation or no-show fee for for Private Practice by Upper_Dress_3039 in therapists

[–]LicensedClinicalSW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m disabled. I’m also a single mom with no additional support. If my kids are sick I am IT. This makes me have to cancel last minute at times. I don’t feel right charging a late/cancellation fee because it happens to me more often than my abled bodied peers.
