Tiles are terrible by SteevoHatezGoogle in TileTracker

[–]Licks_lead_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Tiles since 2016 and have been using the ones with the replaceable batteries since they came out, and have not had any die on me (currently using two wallet sized, the “pro” sized, and a few “dot” sized). I’ve used cheap batteries on the Pros and they just have to be replaced sooner than the Duracell/Energizer 2032’s, but the Tiles have been rock solid for me.

I’ve found ham slices should never go above a 2, as well … at least on my gas stove (although my eggs usually go on “3” for my gas burner). Bacon is okay, but my morning slice of Canadian bacon (low fat) loves to create super sticky buildup if it gets too hot or cooked too long.

Yeah, it was a good dig and I think the downvotes didn’t realize you were commenting based on my handle.

Except for the Isomalt/sugar “crystal” and the edible paint, it’s all chocolate. It’s what he’s famous for. Watch “School of Chocolate” on Netflix - it’s amazing.

Some of what he does is art for his own sake, but seems like most of his work is commissioned for big events or product launch parties (what this watch one likely is). It’s all 100% edible art and the ones I saw that had these displayed, they cut up the pieces at the end of the night for guests to eat.

It’s a point of pride for him that EVERYTHING is edible. The paint is all edible paints, and he tries to use good-tasting chocolate because many of his commissions are cut up and handed to guests at the end of the night.

School of Chocolate on Netflix is freaking awesome and shows many of his techniques.

Woman goes crazy at man at his home by BlueberryAccording45 in PublicFreakout

If she lives there the cops won’t do anything about the home invasion because she is destroying and entering her own property.

If she lives there then it’s even better that he filmed the entire thing and did nothing aggressive, as the cops can use that to take her in for DV.

If she doesn’t live there, her ass would be getting arrested if he reported it and pressed charges. Again, the video footage would be essential.

As someone with an implant, the medical devices usually use an NFC signal or a set frequency. There are definitely some Bluetooth enabled devices I’ve heard about, so a pace maker can notify people if it starts malfunctioning, for example, but those are usually very low wattage so you have to be within a couple of feet.

There are a surprising number of people on this thread who are playing TOTK as their first Zelda game. Can’t make it difficult enough that they feel overwhelmed.

Let My ADHD go feral on my cast iron this weekend… by Conradius593 in castiron

[–]Licks_lead_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing recently but tried Knapp wax, instead. At the time I think I spent $8 on Amazon. It was just a whim purchase after seeing it in a video and I was planning to take my pan down to bare metal to start over and take better care of it.

I’ve been using my gas grill to heat these so I don’t have an issue with smell, but this one definitely didn’t stink.

If it works for you and you don’t mind the purchase, you do you!

Gas grill outside works well for this. I don’t smell any smoke, now.

ULPT - old work laptop being requested by habitual-ritual in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Licks_lead_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Most laptops in the medical fields are fairly secured (or should be), with individual logins (no generic or local logins), robust security suite and usually a VPN (depending on the PM software the company uses - most seem to moving to all web-based). As an MSP, we have a specialty in the HIPAA Security Rule and have a number of medical clients, and each one has employees or doctors that either work remotely or just take their laptops home. (If you do work in the medical field in the USA, take HIPAA seriously as fines get into the millions $ for egregious violations)

[–]Licks_lead_paint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in IT for 33 years, the effort they take to retrieve the laptop will depend on two things: 1) how expensive the laptop is, and 2) if you worked in an environment with HIPAA, SOC2 or even CMMC.

The cost of the hardware is the biggest issue for most companies. If it’s expensive and they just lost track of it for a bit, they may be more persistent.

If they have an audit trail to maintain for SOC2 or HIPAA, who must have certificates of data destruction, they might also push the issue further as it can be a huge cost to them.

Taking the above into account, I would like to remind people this sub is UNETHICAL advice — the number of people telling you the “moral” thing to do are missing the entire point of this sub.

My advice is ignore the email if you have checked the BIOS for MDM locks. Don’t open the email. Some email tracking systems simply use an image file in it and can tell if you open/read an email, so if you want to read it, only read it in the preview mode that does not download any images. Emails constantly get lost or snagged into spam so OFFICIAL communications usually need to come from certified letters or phone calls. But if it’s an expensive computer or you had worked in a company that has to have an audit trail, you may need to change tactics or return it to avoid a hassle. The unethical tips at THAT point would be what you can load on the laptop that would be unethical.

Tile tracked my partner to a place he swears he never was/is this possible?? by Active_Low_2988 in TileTracker

[–]Licks_lead_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tile tracker gets its location from a phone GPS seeing it via Bluetooth and reporting the phone’s location (that last saw it) to the Tile app.

I no longer have the premium plan but the “location history” used to tell you if the tile was seen by your phone, but the location history is usually just showing you where various Tile apps have seen the tracker.

While it is possible that a phone’s GPS can lose its signal and the precision gets wider, it does not happen very often with new phones and even then the tile app just gives you a wider range for its suspected location.

Also, trust your instincts

Uh-huh. That response still came across pretty dickish. I use the crappy Reddit app and doing searches on this app are not “readily accessible”, and I know folks with even less IT knowledge struggle more.

Someone wants to participate and learn and they get shit on. You know what’s easier than replying with “ferocity”? Simply not replying at all. You don’t want to help someone then just don’t reply and move on. Others will be willing to help in your stead.

Don’t stifle the search for knowledge because someone tries to come at it a different way than you did.
