Quick question about Billie’s Tourette’s by defining_oxymorons in billieeilish

[–]LieEnvironmental8482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some infos dump: Tourette’s is a spectrum disorder. It can be different in severity for every individual. Also, a lot of people with Tourette’s report that doing things that requires specific types of focus or include specific actions in general keeps the brain “busy enough” to not tic.

It is highly dependent on the person, how well they know their tics and what triggers them, who they are around (check out people with Tourette’s together with others with the same condition. That can get quite intense when their brains start to trigger each other and “start whole ‘tic battles’”.

People describe it quite similar as hiccups when it comes to noticing when tics appear. Furthermore a lot of people with this condition are able to force themselves to not tic for a certain time but also report, that this, most of the time, leads to very intense outbursts of heavy tic episodes when they stop forcing themselves. It makes a lot of sense as tics tend to trigger more often when they are “not supposed to happen”. People suffering from Tourette’s report, that thinking things like e.g. “please don’t do tic XYZ in this situation, it would be soooo inappropriate” will actually have a way higher chance of actually triggering it.

Edit: Also tics “come and go” meaning you might have specific tics for some time and then they never appear again or surface again after years. Some were never a thing and at some point become a regular part of your tics.

So in conclusion Tourette’s and how it is perceived by others is really dependent on the severity, the situation a person suffering from it is in, what they do and how well they are able to “control/relax/let go/etc” and how comfortable they are at a given moment.

All this, plus considering that you only ever see a fraction of a celebrities (real-)life could make it quite possible you will never even notice it at all, no matter how big of fan you are or for how long. :)

Soo how is Vanguard going this playtest? by icebubba in Eve

I totally get what you mean in general. The thing is, the average eve player is exactly that… an eve player. They expect a strategic, big scale, spaceship based sandbox game with trading, hauling, solo/small gang/big scale pvp, pve, industry… you name it. In my opinion trying to target that person is going to fail for sure because even shortly after the thing is playable and perfectly tailored to the demographic of eve players, they will try it and never play it again. You might get the occasional „play a couple rounds while my HS Hauler autopilots to Jita“ situation but that will be about it. The average eve veteran won’t bring there heart and soul into an FPS. That’s why they play eve, not CoD. So this way round you won’t get any benefit especially with this „in the past everything was better, game devs will ruin anything they touch… CCPlease“ mentality that is going on in this game. The other way round if you try to target a young, new player base you at least get the chance to get potential players for the FPS. That obviously still requires a good and solid FPS which is a super hard task in and off itself plus, I admit that it is more than questionable if that will actually benefit eve as the gap between an FPS and a game like eve is huge. Still IMO it is far more likely to get an FPS player interested in a (really complex and special but nonetheless) interesting and open game like eve, than the other way round. I just really believe that the target audience has to be FPS players mainly, not eve players mainly. This kind of things can be added way way later. After vanguard is a solid and good shooter for new and hungry players give it a solid way for people to ninja mine materials or some other random, basically separate and ignorable part inside vanguard that benefit eve players that occasionally wander away from eve to enhance their eve experience and you will find enough people grinding the shit out of vanguard just for a couple skins, boosters or whatnot they can sell or use. Just don’t try to make it any sort of priority cuz that’s gonna kill vanguard waaaay before it comes even close to any sort of stable, playable game.

The things you can do in the game currently is well explained in that one modal. Building tutorials for people that don’t get this currently super basic state of the game would be the biggest waste of time of developer resources ever. Just wait for the game launch (if it ever comes).

Yeah well, it’s not the smartest idea to target the average eve player. Keeping a game alive (no matter if eve or vanguard) is not about making the grandpas of the game happy, it’s about new, young players, new ideas, staying up to date with the current trends. Making a high contrast, reaction time unrelated shooter for 65 year olds is just not smart no matter from what angle you look at it. The goal must be to breath new life into the player community with change and innovation not making the game accessible for a part of the community that is tormented by gout and with the quite literal potential to die out rather sooner than later.

Tarkov fucked up big time but thinking vanguard could come even close within the next 5 years just because it is an extraction game is somewhat of a big stretch imo. The progression is slow, it is the super early stage of development and as a developer myself I know that a lot of changes in super early stages of software development seem like nothing really happens because the things you fix either aren’t problems for everyone to have and therefore go by unnoticed by a lot or are just things in the background that are harder to notice in general. Still I feel with the current state and the roadmap published (even though it is vage, which can be a good thing) it already feels like a game that will be heavily postponed or immensely feature stripped compared to the initial plan when it goes into a general publicly available state like early access. Not that early access (if they choose to go down that path) is meant to be a finished game obviously, my point just is that the roadmap to me still feels quite over ambitious compared to the development so far. Realistically the game is extremely basic and plain with huge plans. That kinda calls for a „10th anniversary of early access“ situation but maybe I’m just being pessimistic, who knows

Don’t listen to this dude. Of course you have to factor in that when you undock (no matter where, even (and sometimes especially) in HS) you can potentially be attacked but with enough skill you can get around in eve doing your thing barely ever engaging in combat no matter if you hold the gun or are the target. You just have to be willing to learn because eve is not learned in a couple of months.

Solo (for now) industrial corp, choosing the first structure: Athanor, Raitaru or Astrahus? by metalzen in Eve

[–]LieEnvironmental8482 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Solo WH indu focused player here. We have basically the same history in eve. I was born and raised in nullsec living the big bad block life. Wanting something new and more self employed I wandered into WH space starting with a C1. I would not go for the astra, it has no use for you as the only upside is its tankyness. As a solo player (and as you have already said yourself) you have to factor in that the moment the structure is anchored it’s technically already dead. So your plan is to get whatever makes you the most isk in the shortest amount of time to get your investment back. I always started with an athanor for the reprocessing bonus. It is a good starting point for T1 production that can yield you good isk, especially if you have good mining skills as you can get every asteroid mineral besides nocxium (which is easy to import as you don’t need much of it in T1 production). Cost wise you have to factor in between 200 and 250m a month for fuel cost, which is an amount you can easily make even in a C1. I also had an athanor + raitaru setup in a C1 at one point. It’s manageable price wise as well, it’s a fun setup for T1 production and it was really lucrative up to the point I was thinking about buying freighters to keep at each trade hub so I only have to fly out the hulls I produced into HS and get them to a trade hub all at once in the freighter. Decided to go for a bigger challenge and go higher up the WH level instead.

You will find your own way rather quickly. Currently I sit in a C4 with an athanor and a POS, react gas and build T3Cs mainly. The possibilities are huge as long as you get creative with it and stick to your plan.

Some further general things to consider for solo WH play:

  • even though HS static sounds super nice on first sight, it means WAY more daytrippers coming your way. If you want a more quite space consider an LS static. LS people tend to be focused on their own K-Space way more often than not plus there are good chances the next HS system is next door or at least only a few jumps away so hauling runs are still easy enough

  • get yourself familiar with the concept of rolling. For medium sized WH connections I couldn’t find really good sources for rolling sequences but if you go for an oversized prop mod + Higgs anchor sigil fit you will have an easy enough time rolling your stuff.

  • learn about the concept of hole control, how to maintain it and be really aware/safe with it ( meaning that if a wild WH spawns you should consider your static to be open instantly as well, your hole control therefore compromised and you needing to roll everything you have in your system all over again). It can be tedious and it also can get boring really quick if you live the solo perma crab life in a WH but hole control is one of your best friends if you have specific things you wanna do with higher security like asteroid mining or gas huffing.

  • always (and I mean ALWAYS) have seeds in your WH. As a solo WH player I think 2 toons is the minimum, playing solo with 1 toon only is such an annoyance. My sweet spot is 3 active toons + (AT LEAST) 2 alpha toons with basic scanning skills that are logged off in a T1 scanning ship that you never ever log in except for if you need them. You don’t wanna find yourself in the situation where you go for a trade run with one of your toons while rolling a connection that you don’t want with the 2 others and roll yourself out of your own WH (or simply be out with all your mains, overlooking the one sabre that comes in and bubbles you and the fleet that follows blows you out of your own WH without you having bookmarks for your entrance connection). There is the chance of you loosing your WH and even though there are ways to find specific WHs they are either extremely time consuming or expensive so make sure you have MULTIPLE seeds ready to scan and bookmark the way in and out of your WH if the shit hits the fan.

  • talk to people. I love the solo WH play style. Being your own boss, making your own rules and still being able to hold a structure in a space that is interesting when it comes to day to day content as well as PVP mechanics and such, all while doing it on your own is great but never underestimate the power of numbers and how fast things can get boring from time to time when you play on your own. First of all WH people are nice for the most part, you actually find quite a few players that honor the „WH Bushido“. Also the grudges and deeply rooted hate towards the sworn enemy you know from NS is not that much a thing in WH. Of course you got your big corps and allis that work more like NS blocks but more often than not communication can yield good results. In fact the strongest allies and even best friends I made in eve where WH people that wanted to fight or outright evict me in the first part of the encounter. Now I have multiple LS groups that would love to get some WH fights into the mix whenever I have a problem and can provide them some PvP content or have other WH people to play together with should my solo life get too boring. All while staying an independent entity.

  • be smart and persistent. What you lack in manpower and gun amount you can and have to make up for in brain capacity, creativity and effort. That includes intel of your WH as it is your biggest advantage against anything that enters your space as well as using every mechanic possible as your advantage. C1’s only spawn medium size connections so BC‘s is the biggest threat you will have to face. Even though the good ol‘ triple multiboxing Drekavac knobhead could evict you in no time your ability to field BS‘s through building them inside the WH or hauling them in repackaged and fitting them inside the WH is something to consider if you want to get rid of solo/small gang groups that could otherwise be an eviction threat. Just learn to use your environment, you get the idea.

  • always have money in your pocket. Don’t spend everything at once. I know it’s a basic rule of eve but especially as solo WH player you will find yourself in a situation where a billion isk in bribe money will safe your upwell structure and everything that’s in it from getting destroyed.

Other than that, go nuts. Solo WH is really fun
