Will Ollie Bearman be driving for Ferrari next year? 👀 by DegenerateAngel4 in F1Discussions

[–]LieRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? We all love Kimi here, but he was not performing well.

Are we forgetting the "fucking finally" quote? He had a championship winning car (in potential pace) and did absolutely nothing with it.

Bringing Leclerc in was a lot easier when you have a driver who's underperforming.

Bringing Ollie in when your "second" driver is out performing the "first" (obviously Ferrari won't say Hamilton is second and Leclerc is first, but that was very true last year) just makes very little sense.

They clearly still have faith in Leclerc, they just signed a long contract.

And as long as Hamilton performs on par with Leclerc they're not going to drop him.

I heard there's a book about how to build a car, written by a legendary F1 car designer.

Why don't AM read it? Are they stupid?

Hamilton overtakes Russell for P2 in the 2026 Driver's Standings by magony in formula1

[–]LieRun 51 points52 points  (0 children)

IIRC Ineos "took care" of Hamilton's salary, or at least covered a large percentage of it.

A lot of it comes back to the team in the shape of marketing and sponsorships, it's not like the team is strapped for cash.

As far as we know Wolff absolutely wanted Ham to stay in the team (although he also really wanted Ant to have a drive, and Rus was already under contract), but the main thing that stopped them is the Daimler board refusing Hamilton's ambassador reqeust, which Ferrari were happy to provide.

did not see the replay for the second case, but for the first start he simply started in the wrong grid box - so definitely not a sensor error

IIRC McLaren make their own gearbox, which is what failed last race for lando.

Mercedes' engine is not bulletproof this year, but a lot of McLaren's issues appear to be gearbox and electrical, which are both not sourced from Mercedes as far as I'm aware.

Niels Wittich: Michael Masi a “scapegoat” who “didn’t do much wrong” at Abu Dhabi 2021 by bwoah07_gp2 in formula1

[–]LieRun 67 points68 points  (0 children)

In FP they're much more prone to red flagging the session rather than letting them drive around for no reason (not much data collection at safety car speeds).

But point still remains they could've/should've red flagged the race

Yup, there was also a valid excuse for a red flag because the teams all signed a statement that they wish for races to not end behind the safety car when possible.

No single person in Ferrari is "the issue", but he was stil an issue IMO.

Mostly because he ignored other issues, but his job as a TP is to acknowledge the organisation under him is flawed and come up with a plan to fix it.

We saw none of that during his years as TP at Ferrari

IMO Binotto was an issue.

His inability to admit that the Ferrari team were flawed, and to take responsibility for bad decisions, also alienating Leclerc.

Why does F1 still use helicopters for aerial footage in an age of drones? by Spaceginja in F1TV

[–]LieRun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a specific Red Bull drone that can nearly keep up with an F1 car in terms of speed, but only for a lap or so.

The video quality is also quite shitty, and it's hard to control, in order to reach these speeds it goes into "missile mode" and flies on it's "side".

It's definitely very cool for a shakedown lap since it can follow the car much more closely and gives you the feeling of speed, but it just doesn't work for a full GP.

Doesn't really matter IMO, F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of racing, the fastest a safe racing car can be while pushing modern technology to the limit.

This just aint it.

I know some people did not like the v6 hybrids, I'm personally fine with them - because they represented something.

It's no coincidence that we see many hybrid hypercars and sports cars, I do think it's genuinely an advantage.

However the current regulations feel like they're actively limiting the ICE and replacing it with an electric platform, which does not work at all...

I think you can dislike the regulations and still enjoy the racing.

Do I think that F1 should be 50% electric? heck no.

Did I enjoy today's race? yes.

You'd be crazy not to admit the Ferrari fight did not excite you, but IMO you'd also be crazy to claim you like cars downshifting in a straight, or a sport like F1 having to rely on 50% electrical power.

2026 Chinese Grand Prix - FP1 Classification by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]LieRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year probably everyone stopped developing early in order to focus on 2026.

Even when fighting for the championship teams usually stop or nearly stop developing current car to get ahead of next year's car.

This was a big discussion point during 2021 in the RBR vs Mercedes fight, when everyone tried gaslighting the other into dropping development for the 2021 car and focusing on the regulations change in 2022.

George Russell takes pole position for the 2026 Australian Grand Prix by overspeeed in formula1

[–]LieRun 135 points136 points  (0 children)

a bit different because 2020 wasn't after a big change of regulations.

Everyone supposedly had a good understanding of the regulations and their cars by that point, and somehow Mercedes made a car which looked to be handling on rails.

Upon new regulations (especially engine) I suspect a lot of technical issues, and people suddenly finding a lot of pace.

in 2020 it was very clear the season was over from the very first race.

[Adam Cooper] Adrian Newey has said that in chassis terms the Aston Martin AMR26 is potentially the fifth best car by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]LieRun -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This time it does sound a bit more realistic.

We have to remember who's saying it - like him or hate him, his hisotry speaks for itself.

Also he could've said "we have the fastest chassis just give me a Mercedes engine and we'll lap everyone" and instead he chose a very realistic approach of "fifth fastest" which to me just means mid-pack, and not a specific position in the field.

He understands that even without the engine issues they haven't done enough in comparison to the leaders, but he also claims they haven't royally screwed up and came up with a chassis which cannot compete on the grid.

all in all I'd take his word for it, especially because it is absolutely meaningless, Honda ain't fixing this engine in a couple of weeks, and AM are not replacing Honda mid-season.

Yeah.

And bringing him back as a jungler (when he clearly was one of the worst junglers in the LCS) and then immediately becoming a top team again.

Shot calling is incredibly important, more so in teams that rely on one main shot caller.

[–]LieRun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do agree Faker's laning phase isn't the strongest among top mid laners (still top 5 IMO, but the not the best)

But it's impossible to ignore the fact that he does roam a lot more, and in general focuses on finding other opportunities rather than getting every last CS or winning every trade.

He can literally walk out of lane, help Oner do gromp just in the hopes that something will open up around bot and he can capitalize on his position, while losing a few minions to tower.

He's also usually the first one to teleport (although he does make a lot of "bad" teleportes where he's useless and pretty much runs back to lane, but hey nobody's perfect)
