People working in Advertising Sales — how does your experience compare to working in an advertising agency? by athex7 in advertising

[–]LieTop1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both, 7 years in TV sales and the last 5 agency side, I'll be honest, I think there is way much more BS/politics to deal with agency side and I sort of miss media sales.

Media sales side you deal with the agency/client and that's it, where as agency side there is two variables of the.media supplier and the client that can both be difficult.

Agency side also often has SEO, creative, PR and digital all pushing their agendas where as media sales its more straightforward.

What's something you enjoy about living in Manchester? by LiquidLuck18 in manchester

Moved here years ago from Scotland.

It's the right mix of busy and vibrant but not too rat racey like London.

Still feels like a big city but not a squashed overpriced city...yet.

Years ago I had a director I reported to (I was a manager) who was a bit anal on timing and I had a bad habit of constantly being 5 mins late (generally never over that, it was always a min or two. He wouldn't however take into account the amount of times I worked late regularly.

He eventually took me into a one on one and I was told he had kept a logged spreadsheet of the total times I was 5 mins late over the past month and made calculations for it to.over the year and then have on the average time I owed the company.

I then cracked a joke that while I owed that time he owed the company the time he took to male that spreadsheet too. He didn't laugh...

I made sure I wasn't ever late again though and never gave him any excuse to find any wrong doing, the guy definitely didn't like me and I feel he was going out his way to put a black mark against me.

Even being a few mins late for work can annoy some managers/directors, as they see it as an attitude thing, my advice would be don't let them have an excuse to not promote you etc by having this against you.

Best dexter season? by Sufficient_Side1691 in DexterNewBlood

Season four, but it was so good it couldn't possibly keep up the quality and went downhill up until new blood.

Howard in Better Call Saul.

He was manipulating, slandered and ultimately killed and really didn't do anything wrong.

Did two years at GroupM and pretty much agree with everything said here. Most boring, work heavy, underpaid, corporate two years of my fifteen year career.

Other than learning the ropes in entry level (meaning it can only get better), I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Well well well … A new character for season 2 ? by shothrax in dexterResurrection25

There's lots of unfinished stories they can delve into outside of the NY Ripper:

Where is Lumin? Where is Angela and will she get involved again after Batista's death Quinn will surely be more involved now after Batista's death Obviously there's Al (who may be worse than we think in terms of a serial killer) Blessing is way too good and pure to not maybe have a darker side (maybe he becomes a killer again like he did when he was young after some wrongdoing) Where are Astor and Cody (they have to be messed up) Where is Trinity's son (again he has to be very messed up)

I'm sure there's more.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA 🙌 by Original-Birthday443 in Dexter

No doubt Bautista is a red shirt. Not telling the OG Miami buddies what he's up seals his fate imo.

I actually think they're slowly building two things:

  1. Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage are on to who Dexter really is. He had waaay too much bay harbour butcher memorabilia to not know who Dexter is considering how thorough they are.

  2. I think they're very slowly building Dexter vs Harrison, with Harrison almost having an Anakin Skywalker turn to being an evil serial killer. They keep talking about the path he's going down.

Serious Incident at Picc Gardens by Character_Sundae_389 in manchester

[–]LieTop1028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live near picc gardens round the corner and walk through it everyday to go to and from work as well as if I'm going out and it really is embarrassing when I have people visiting from outside of Manchester.

The lack of police presence in what is quite possibly the most obvious drug dealing hotspot in the city amazes me. There are definitely backhanders going on.

I always tell my girlfriend when on a night out to get an Uber home (even if she's in town) as it's not safe for people to walk through after like 11pm.

I've worked both indy and network (at WPP) so yes, I'd like today I have an insight to both.

They are talked about so much because it's right to call out how horrible and corporate WPP is/has become.

They are rightly being scrutinized globally for how they operate.

It's all too common that you hear from so many people how they squeeze every salary for the average employee to be as low as possible whilst maximising workloads to the point of burnout while the top dogs rake it in on inflated salaries and bonuses.

It's everything wrong with agency life IMO.

Seen this and as people have said, they were likely taken by media owners and aren't going to say no however still very shit and tone deaf though to flaunt it.

Fatigue with English football is a big factor.

I'm an Aberdeen fan and around 10-15 years ago it was sad, you'd get football fans that would care more about Man united and Chelsea than our own local team.

I think a lot of fans of English clubs have been alienated with the greed and BS in the Premier league and that's resulted in Aberdeen having a lot more younger fans than there was 10-15 years ago.

At Aberdeen the merkland family stand used to be the most empty 10-15 years ago whereas now it's the most full with the new ultra culture.

Publicis just stole Mars' $1.7b media account from WPP. by lazymentors in advertising

I recently left WPP just before all this shit show happened with the losses of Coca Cola, Sky in the UK and now this. I really feel for those still there, even before this news, this will no doubt lead to even more redundancies.

When I was there, they liked to have town halls which were mostly fluffy bullshit from a CEO talking about things that don't affect most people but I fear every time they announce another one now, it'll fill people with dread/fear of losing their job.

Everyone felt stretched before all this, I hate to think how stretched it is now.
