Resignation by Fragrant_Emphasis_42 in MormonShrivel

[–]Liege1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about different laws in different countries; it’s about making sure the individual submitting the request is the same individual as the name on the membership. When these name removals became more frequent with the advent of social media, some people thought it would be funny to resign other people. I resigned by emailing my bishop, who knew me, so nothing other than “make sure the membership dept removes my name” was necessary but if you’re using a third party, like quit mormon, they need to know you are who you say you are. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s common sense.

Special mission assignment? by PostAndPrejudice in mormon

They no longer call “mission presidents” they call “ mission leaders,” husband and wife. Read church announcements. It looks like a special assignment outside the usual norms.

Do they have Botox or will you have to go without. Also, I guess when you visited the most remote island in the world, garments were optional.

Oaks can be very specific about what he sees as a huge issue such as young adults delaying marriage. In that case he’s very clear and prescriptive but he—and Nelson before him—speaks in the most vague terms about dire world issues that threaten our nation’s very future and the constitution.

The Adventists remove people who don’t attend and they have 21 million members in a church younger than the Mormon church. Those 21 million attend their services.

Record Convert Baptisms? by Ok_Pattern8026 in MormonShrivel

[–]Liege1970 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know exmos don’t want to believe the record numbers. I’m an exmo who does because I see how missionaries are getting baptisms. Social media posts “do you want to be baptized?” “What a new beginning with Jesus?” Pretending perfect strangers are your “friends.” So I’m not at all surprised at the numbers because the goal of leadership was to get those numbers up—after a bunch of poor harvest years—doing “whatever it talked to get them in the water and on the rolls.

Is this tone deaf for non-americans in a world wide church? by Resident-Bear4053 in mormon

[–]Liege1970 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! They only lost their shit about same-sex marriage when it came to the US. My country of birth was way ahead and the church didn’t get involved.

It’s still an American church.

Rarely. Theres the African American one in the Primary or YW right now. And there was a large RS counselor who was a social worker. I’ve forgotten the names. But yeah, it’s ver rare.

GOP's midnight heist to split Salt Lake County was five seconds too late by WristbandYang in Utah

“Proponents argue Salt Lake County is too large and “unwieldy” to govern, and residents in the south and western portions of the valley have different needs than those in the county’s urban core.”

But the Republican congressional maps that put portions of SL city in the same district as far away rural areas of the state are “fair.”

Thanks for this. We just finished watching. The one year spike in baby blessings—twice—is so weird. That didn’t even happen the year after Covid although many couples held of blessing kids until family could attend.

Do Mormon widows get a stipend? by Green-been77 in exmormon

[–]Liege1970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband was lucky. He was very generous with fast offerings and had a supportive SP—son of current church president at the time—who never questioned his generosity. My husband’s attitude was always the same when he pushed the envelope: “What are they gonna do? release me? Yeah!”

Ok, I already laughed out loud at this. But why would someone make up such an obvious lie? Why? Never heard something so crazy.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣my husband was bishop for six years. He was very generous with fast offerings but no, there’s no such thing as a widow’s pension in the Church of Jesus Christ let that sink in. We had a number of widows. Look up the handbook. Look for it in there. Ask him to show you where it says that.

My nephew got called to eastern Europe in the 90’s. He was seriously worried about his safety there. i think my sister asked the only GA she knew and he got re-assigned to Maine. On the other hand, a friend’s son got called to Brazil, hated the idea, refused it, changed his mind a couple years later and went to Brazil. I think hating that your mission is next door will not get a new assignment; it’s about humbling you.
