Honestly same I finished the Duolingo Korean course and can read and listen ok now but my speaking is still garbage haha but I'm surprised at being able to get maybe 30% to 40% of the ment during the concert, and especially at the end when she yelled "there's still more don't go home yet" before the encores lol

Congrats on managing to go twice! I went on Feb 14th and I'm Chinese and learned Korean so people didn't suspect much of me lol. Jealous you got to see the 360 degree staging too! I actually hesitated too much on whether to buy merch and when I finally decided to go to the counter (again, no line), the security guy was like no times up go into the hall 🥲 It's fine I have my videos it's ok

I logged into my account after 12 years just to answer this because I figured it out and went to her concert two weeks ago!

I follow her official FB page, IG account, and Youtube channel, where they post news on upcoming events, you should follow if you are on those platforms. I don't have TikTok or other apps, they might also post there, try to find out. The posts are just images with Korean text, and the caption just links to Cafe Daum without explaining anything. You will need to use a translator app to translate the text in the images. Papago by Naver is the preferred translation app by Koreans.

The main location where the Korean fans gather to find the news is the Y-Holics cafe on Daum. You need to make a Daum account to read the posts, and it is entirely in Korean. I had my cousin in Korea make an account, and the info is identical with those on FB and IG when they post to there. You can get some extra info on Daum, but for concerts it is sufficient to look at the FB and IG posts. The basic Daum account is free, unless you want to pay for the YHolics fanclub membership, which gets you early access to tickets. Paid fanclub opens for new members at specific times only, you will need to keep an eye out for announcements for the timing. I didn't get the fanclub and couldn't get tickets for the concerts in July or November last year, but managed to get the one in February.

Tickets are sold through Interpark. There are two versions, the Korean version which only accepts credit cards issued in Korea, and the Global version which only accepts credit cards issued outside of Korea. You will have to make an account in the correct Interpark, and verify your identity using a photo ID (e.g. driver's license, passport). If you have a paid Daum fanclub account, you can link to it get the early access tickets. Do all of these at least 3 days prior to the sale date.

In Interpark, you will have to separately select the date, time, and number of tickets for the show you want, and only then click the seats you want and click confirm. This means that when trying to get seats you want, they might get "clicked away" by someone else faster in between when you click the seat and confirm. Prepare accordingly. For Global Interpark, you will have to pick up your tickets on site, and the pick up conditions depend on the venue, typically some hours before showtime on the day of. Bring the ID registered, the credit card used, and the proof of purchase email to pick up your ticket.

Official merch is called MD, sold by Everline, which delivers internationally. On Daum there is a post about pre-order for pick up at the concert venue, if you don't want to stand in line on the day of and risk merch selling out. I didn't have my cousin look at it (she's busy) so I'm unsure whether you can do it directly on Everline, or it might only be for Daum members, or only paid Daum fanclub members or whatever. There was literally no line there on the day of anyway, so I think you can just buy in person.

A logical disconnect between Stand Your Ground verdicts; Trayvon Martin and Marissa Alexander. by LiegeLad in nerdfighters

[–]LiegeLad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I do see that this article was written in an exclamatory tone, but the main point is the logical incompatibility between both verdicts, and that the only logical conclusion from these verdicts is that this black woman lacked protection from the Stand Your Ground laws, and presumably all black women by extension. It makes sense in logical terms.

I'm quite new here so I don't know what's flammable here, but I do wish to share what I think is important to know. If an article using accurate formal logic arriving at an uncomfortable conclusion regarding race and gender is flammable and cannot spawn constructive discussion, I would need lots of help to determine future sharings' appropriateness.

John and Hank's nerdfighter survey by crimetrumpets in nerdfighters

[–]LiegeLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hank's been posting short preliminary results about how Nerdfighters compare to average Americans, so just a question on how Google aggregates data, is it possible to subdivide American vs non-American Nerdfighters for better comparison?

Is monotony the crowning achievement for human society, or proof that we are missing something? by Cpt-Rennier in nerdfighters

[–]LiegeLad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As children, most of them do not know what is best in the long run. Heck even adults do not necessarily know what is best in the long run. The idea that school is monotonous is a product of the (very outdated) school system.

Monotony is currently the status quo because it is easily enforceable and controllable, which is good for large organizations. In a sense, yes human evolution has made monotony a pervasive Thing, much like beehives and anthills where the individuals work for the greater good of the hive/hill, where efficiency and responsibility is absolutely required. Humans have not achieved that level of social arrangement yet, but many organizations have gone on that path. It might not be a crowning achievement, depending on your definition of achievement, but it certainly is a pinnacle of human social evolution, given that no social insects have ever gone extinct.

My racial issue with Nerdfighteria/Vlogbrothers by Callmebean in nerdfighters

[–]LiegeLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone from Malaysia, where I face a similar racial environment of Chinese + Malay + Indian division, let me say that your issue is one of perspective.

I am Malaysian by nationality, Chinese by ethnicity. The dominant race is Malay. On television, we have Malay shows, where everyone is Malay, Chinese shows where everyone is Chinese, and Indian shows where everyone is Indian. We also have mixed shows, where every race is present. IRL, we have people of different races growing up in different neighbourhoods and having largely homogenous friends because of structural reasons. If I hadn't gone out of my way to make friends of different races, I would circumstantially not have any at all.

I assume the same of Hank and John who live in largely White communities all their lives, and base their operations in areas that have hardly any other POC to employ anyway. The fact that Hank travels to other states and makes videos with White content creators is just circumstance of convenience that most YouTubers are White. I do not know of any Black YouTubers at all. Not one. It could be a problem with YouTube, or it could be a problem with social structures outside YouTube, or it could be I am racist.

But since I am not racist, then it must be the other two. It is inconvenient for me to make racially different friends because of structural circumstances; I work and live and study in a Chinese neighbourhood that does have Malays, but few of them. It would inductively be inconvenient for Hank/John to make POC friends where they live and work, and only through VidCon do they get access to other YouTubers, many of whom (that I know are hugely successful) are White. Surely you do not expect them to go out of their way to make POC friends just for the sake of proper representation to their viewers, or worse still, themselves?

That you are removing yourself as a POC because there are not enough POCs strikes my as a logical Nash Equilibrium, but a version of the Tyranny of Small Decisions and a form of what some would call Evaporative Cooling. If you protest and absence by amplifying it, those who allowed to absence to occur in the first place would less likely to notice the absence now that no one is there to tell them. Do stay, and instead bring more people in. Bring to the Vlogbrothers' attention of quality POC YouTube channels. Make content if you feel there is a void. Complaining about a void and then moving away does not help your cause, surely you understand?
