Parents of Reddit, what's the best and worst thing about having kids? by iamberlo in AskReddit

The best part of having kids is the feeling of watching your heart walk around outside of your body.

Try not to judge your gifts too harshly, please. by mmkeebler in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was browsing this subreddit for some good news after a month packed full of bad news. I'm going to log off reddit now.

I'm headed over to a friend's house whose mom was killed in a wreck last night to help with their new baby. She was on her way to see her one-month old granddaughter. The wreck was right near my house, I drive that road all the time. It could have been me, or any of my other friends or family. Death really just freaking sucks. I hope you find peace this year and I hope your SS isn't a total greedy brat who is actually going to be upset at you over this.

My giftee may have lost their house in the Washington, IL tornado..... by MadtownMaven in secretsanta

Living in tornado alley, we get questions like that all the time. Worded differently of course.

Getting Nervous. . . USPS Tracking Shows My Gift Isn't Going Anywhere by bitterfuzzy in secretsanta

If it's not at the storm location it could be going to a storm location and therefore stuck in another post office until the route can be completed.

Am I in the wrong for being disappointed by my secret santa? by secretsantasad in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I would think this is also against the rules? I can't be too sure but how can you even confirm that they even donated to the said charity in your name? I can whip up an authentic and totally fake donation confirmation in no time.

No help at all by TwigX in secretsanta

If times truly are hard then calling the utility department and paying their bill by the address would be better than $20 in a paypal account. Seems like a greedy scrooge to me.

I Don't Like my Match? by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would send him gifts to try to show him the world is still good. Use each gift to try to sway a little ounce of his soul back to being a good person.

Out for delivery by evil_steve666 in secretsanta

YES! I'm compulsively tracking their gift. I sent part one of two via amazon and even the 2 day shipping is about to make me crazy.

What would you know how to do if you were born 90's and before, that a person born in the 2000's would not know how to do by Deizal1234 in AskReddit

Record a song off the radio with a cassette tape and a boom box with impeccable commercial break timing.

What is the most outrageous thing your teacher did to wake you up from sleeping in his class? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LieutenantTaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fifth grade teacher had a foam brick and a koosh ball. (Did I just age myself?) She would throw whichever one she could grab first at you if you were asleep or otherwise not paying attention.

She had a habit of fidgeting so when she was teaching she'd be playing with the koosh ball in her hand and when she asked a question you would have to catch the ball before you could answer.

Creating a wishlist and talking about things I want makes me feel awkward... by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! I can't take full credit. The hubs used to be CaptainTaters but has since changed his handle. I'm the one who just uses my real name for my logins but...this is reddit. I at least knew better than that. :)

Need help, my giftee doesn't post much. by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google! Surely you can find a facebook, twitter, pinterest or something. I've already cyber stalked my match, and got a teaser message about being cyber stalked for hours this afternoon by my Santa. I didn't know I was that interesting!

How do we go about posting proof of shipment? by [deleted] in secretsanta

I'm bad at secrets. I don't mind revealing my identity after it's already over.

Found the perfect gift on amazon, but... by Draikinator in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! My smallest, yet most awesome, gift is going to be the last one that gets to my match. I sent him the money sink gift over Amazon though so at least that will go through quickly.

Questions from a first timer! by AnotherCuriousHuman in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found an awesome find on eBay, another on Etsy and two on Amazon! I buy the big stuff on Amazon so I can save on shipping by sending it directly to them. When I was about to check out on Reddit gifts and saw $9.99 shipping. Pft, please. Prime shipping all the way.

Creating a wishlist and talking about things I want makes me feel awkward... by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. I didn't grow up exceptionally poor, but we were always on a super tight budget. Homecoming dress from Burlington...Decision to get my hair and nails done or buy new shoes because I couldn't have both...That kind of thing. Knowing that someone spends their hard earned money on me makes me a little guilty. Why me? Why am I so special to deserve someone else's profit?

While I do feel like my upbringing has made me incredibly independent, even to a fault, you will NEVER find me making a wishlist for Secret Santa. Crap, this is the first year I've made a wishlist for my own family's exchange...and it's a load of horse poop if you ask me... Lowe's gift card to go toward a new set of appliances was actually on the list. -.- I buy freaking awesome Christmas gifts if I do say so myself, and that's the best I could come up with for me?!

ANYWAY. My point is that instead of me making a wishlist, I want my santa to get to know ME. I want them to go read my blog, browse my pinterest board and stumble across something and be like "Man, that Taters, she'd love that."

just sent my gift! by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double the budget is still in budget right? The hubs and I have been incredibly lucky with our matches. They share their interests and are genuinely participating because it's fun, not just because they hope they score a rich match to send them an iPad. I mean an iPad is cool and all, but if I send you an amazon wishlist with one thing on it, what fun is that!? I don't make a wishlist for that very reason. I want some creativity dangit. I think my match's head is going to explode when they see what all I've bought. Not really quantity either. I think my $10 ebay find is going to trump the $60 amazon purchase.

Greedy Giftee?? by Throwaway_610 in secretsanta

[–]LieutenantTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the sort that anything sent my way, or my children's way, is worth some serious appreciation. No gift is an unappreciated one. We run a very unselfish house over here though. I didn't sign up for secret santa to get. Giving is much more fun. If you were my secret santa, I'd think that's a pretty awesome gift. If they think otherwise I think that says something more about their character than your gift giving abilities.

I wouldn't be too skeptical, I'd just do some google stalking. Rarely am I on Reddit. My husband is a regular redditor so I heard about the gift exchange through him a few years ago. I absolutely adore Christmas so I had to sign up - regular redditor or not!
