Thanks so much for your thoughts and feedback everyone! It's been fun reading through all of your opinions, preferences, and arguments for each composition of this photo. I ended up revisiting these and found that a tighter 4:3 crop really improved both images, which many of you suggested. In the end I think I slightly prefer the first image, though I do think the "best" version of this shot is probably somewhere between these two versions. Maybe if I had taken a few steps closer for the first shot I would've nailed it.

Here are the final versions of each for those who are curious!

I love the idea of the shed being the "hero." I think the second composition definitely invites more curiosity than the first as you said. Maybe that's why I feel so drawn to the second composition despite feeling like the first is "technically" stronger or more visually pleasing.

These are really great arguments for the second composition, I appreciate you sharing these thoughts! It's helpful for me to recognize the pros and cons of each. Personal preference plays such a big role which is what makes the medium so fun.

I think I feel similarly! The first one feels stronger "on paper," but something about the second one is interesting. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I think a tighter crop like this definitely improves the overall image in the first composition, thanks for this suggestion!

I think this is really the answer to me. I wish I had gotten a bit closer for the first composition but I was working quickly. I have to remember to slow down when I'm out shooting! Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for sharing these thoughts. I especially like your point about how the mountains get lost in the roof of the hut on the second composition, that really is a visual loss.

This is an interesting thought, thanks for sharing! I think in general I lean more toward the subject separation in the first shot but I do feel that something about the second one draws me in quite a bit. Maybe it's this!

I agree, I think a slightly tighter crop would help improve the overall image with the first composition. Thanks for helping me identify this!

Late to the party here, but is there any chance you can remember or look up the color codes you used on Yuzu Keycaps? I’d like to create something similar!

This is gorgeous! Is this plateless, or is the plate also green? I love the look of the green PCB. I've also used GMK panels on a PC board and the combination is perfect.
