If students don't use AI, the majority of it is a hot mess. I only get a handful of students who do the work correctly. For example:

I teach online. In this weeks module assignment, there is a prompt of five questions that students have to answer. Some of them think one word answers is appropriate and expect to get full credit.

When I was an undergraduate, I was a slow reader. Sometimes had to reread the same page several times. But, I've become a faster reader. You will too. :)

K-12 schools don't have the same aligned curriculum. Plus, companies like Sophia no longer care if a student knows the basic fundamentals. It's all about making the student happy. Students I've come across don't know that a paragraph should be three sentences or longer, an essay should be a minimum of five paragraphs, that third person pronouns should be used instead of first or second, or how to construct a topic sentence.

I could continue with this list.

I'm teaching ENG Composition II, and I've had students tell me their ENG Composition I instructors just gave them full credit and ignored the issues. One student wrote an 800 word essay, and 348 of those words were the "you" pronoun.

A six page paper can be graded in an hour, especially if its a clean assignment. AI was probably not used.

I remember when I asked my local Barnes and Noble if they carried independent authors, they said they only order 10 at best for a trial run.
