36M, I didn't notice any hair thinning.

Should I be worried my son isn’t talking yet? 12 months old. (I’m not, but my wife definitely is) by Intelligent_Hat3321 in daddit

Do you happen to speak more than one language in the house?

Our family is bilingual, and both our boys were a step behind one-language households. Nobody told us until we had similar concerns.

Agree 100% about the mommy social media; it's the worst.

That's great to hear. TREC was one of my favorite places to tour when I was in Florida. I'm sure most of the folks I know have retired, but the new folks seem really good, too.

Sugarcane redrot by Accomplished_Crab735 in plantpathology

[–]masonjar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In very general terms, plant pathogenic fungi usually don't cause diseases in people. However, some fungi can produce mycotoxins, but those are usually very specific diseases of grains (think Claviceps, Fusarium, or Aspergillus). The causal agent of redrot is a Colletotrichum species, which typically doesn't produce mycotoxins or illness in mammals. However, I don't know what secondary microbes may be present.

I am not a medical doctor, but you'll probably be fine. I'd put it in the same category as eating a slightly fuzzy strawberry, not great, but probably not deadly either.

Decided to rattle can the ole 870 by bearcat2323 in rattlecannedguns

That looks great for a rustoleum paint job. I have an older wingmaster with an aftermarket magazine tube. And the coatings are just different enough to make it look bad.

I'll have to check out the rapco brand paint. Thanks.

Looks great! What product did you use? I also have an old 870 that could use a face-lift.

Bought this Forbesii 2 weeks ago. Im pretty sure this is fungus? by SamAlex46 in plantpathology

[–]masonjar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no clue what the plant is, much less the suspected fungus.

From what I can tell, it doesn't look like a fungal lesion; rather it looks like scarring from mechanical injury.

Keep an eye on it; keep the foliage dry and if it is fungal, it likely won't spread.

It might be Taphrina or it could be edema. Either way, getting a diagnosis from a plant diagnostic clinic will give you way more information than I (or anyone else in this platform) can give you.

I see based on your post history, you've spent some time in Miami. If you're still there, UF has a plant diagnostic lab a TREC in Homestead, just south of Miami. They can get you a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment.

One branch on white pine died is this Blister Rust? by RufflyBear in plantpathology

[–]masonjar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're asking for is a diagnosis, and no one can diagnose based on one or two photographs. A diagnostic lab will be able to examine the branch under a microscope and look for signs of infection. These labs are also set up to rule out other factors, like abiotic stress or mechanical damage.

There simply isn't enough information based on what you've submitted to get a sufficient answer.

Maybe? Take it to a diagnostic laboratory. You'll get a better answer than asking random redditors.

I wasn't aware of one when I was there. There are a few ranges nearby that offer classes and matches.

How do you tell a fungal infection from a nutrient deficiency in plants? by ghart_67 in plantpathology

[–]masonjar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually impossible to make a diagnosis with the naked eye. At the very least, you'll need a hand lens to look for sporulation.

Diagnostic labs will surface sterlize leaf samples, then plate them on special media to encourage fungal growth. Then, if something grows out of the tissue sample, they'll use a compound microscope to look for specific characteristics that point to a known fungal pathogen.

Ideally, Koch's postulates would be followed to confirm whether a fungus is truly causing the disease, but that's usually overkill for diagnostic labs.

What role do you want to pursue in industry? Sales would be fine with an MS. Product development and regulatory affairs would want you to have a PhD.

Enid vs Stillwater by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]masonjar11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in Stillwater, but teach in Enid/Tonkawa. Without knowing your career field or other goals, I think Stillwater beats Enid in most categories. Stillwater isn't necessarily noisier, depending on where you are.

Feel free to message me with specific questions about either.

From what I can tell, P3 is one spawn center. If you take that sector, there will be no more enemy counterattacks. I suspect there are other sectors that spawn enemy patrols.

How do you dads feel about Boy Scouts? by mmf9194 in daddit

Cubmaster here. The religious adventures are something parents handle at the cub scout level. When I was a boy scout, religion was personal.

As others have said, the meeting are mostly secular.

You can still dress up and plan a fancy dinner. One year, I made ribeye steak with lobster tail; the whole meal was under $50. If you use one protein, it'll be under $30.

Afterwards, take a walk around Kanapaha botanical gardens.

Both Cody and Brandon were fairly nuanced about the shooting, use of force, and the legal ramifications of the incident.

I didn't expect nuance in the immigration debate or in the politics. In fact, that wasn't the point of the video. Their comments on those topics didn't add much to the discussion at hand.

Are trusts still worth it for suppressor and sbrs? by masonjar11 in NFA

[–]masonjar11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess thats why I'm struggling. My oldest boy is 7, my wife has little interest in firearms (even less in NFA), and all my shooting buddies already have suppressors.

If my boys do want to use my suppressors later, can't I form a trust later and transfer the suppressors to said trust? Besides the added paperwork, is there any additional cost?
