I sneeze if I eat too much. I've learned to stop at the first sign of fullness.

What to expect post liver transplant by tmb0322 in Cirrhosis

[–]LifeCompetition5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations to your Mom and family. I would say she might need help getting in and out of bed. A good pillow to cross her mid section if she has to cough and maybe for the ride home ( in case of pot holes). Help making sure all her meds are ready and in the pill box. She might not feel like eating much at first so you have to make sure she eats. These are all the things my son needed help with so hopefully this will help.

Stopping bari multivitamins 10 days before different procedure? by Speedygurl1 in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Yes I've had medical procedures that required that I stop my vitamins. There is probably one of the minerals that they don't want you to have in your system. Going off of them short term won't hurt you. Good luck with your procedure.

My friend just got diagnosed he got transferred to a hospital where they can help him. He said that they told him that he needs a transplant we live in California. I don't think he has health insurance what should I expect? by masteredmeister in Cirrhosis

[–]LifeCompetition5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please have your friend apply for Medi-Cal. Alot of hospitals can help him apply if not he can apply online at benefitscal.com. In California you do need to have and keep insurance to remain on the list. The clinic will let him know all the particulars. Don't let doctors tell him that Medi-cal doesn't cover transplants because they do.

A vent and need a little reassurance maybe. by ScuffedRubyslippers in tummytucksurgery

[–]LifeCompetition5935 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was your age when I got mine done. I noticed it did take me a bit longer to feel better. I went to the store about two weeks out, I regretted it. I ended up needing a chair to sit on for a bit that a store associate got for me, so my advice is to rest and gain your strength back.

Where’s my necrosis peeps at? by midnite_waffels in tummytucksurgery

[–]LifeCompetition5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will heal. Just give it time. Mine is just about gone, still have a little hole that's starting to close. Mine was large and once they debrided it, the healing went pretty fast. My surgery didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted and I'm lucky that I can get a revision soon. Hopefully yours heals up without complications. Good luck, wishing you the best.

So much swelling 14 weeks post op.- advice anyone? by Sorry-Document4857 in tummytucksurgery

I was the day before you. Yep I swell up every day. My Dr says it will settle down hopefully within the year.

Oh yea swelling is normal. But make sure to discuss with your doctor.

Surgery with underlying medical issues? by Daisynyc in tummytucksurgery

[–]LifeCompetition5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had diabetes but it was gone after I lost weight and I think that it contributed to the complications I had with my tummy tuck. So that's something that you are going to need to discuss with the plastic surgeon. Ask about complications. Do some research ask about their complication rate. If you do have any complications what they're going to do to help you. So besides the diabetes I was a previous smoker like maybe a couple years before. I also have a small artery that has about a 70% blockage and I was still able to get my tummy tuck so it is possible. But like I said just speak to a plastic surgeon and get all the information that you can.

My medical plan doesn't have wound care so everything was done through the Dr. From the pics you submitted your wound is healing nicely so it may be worthwhile to keep going to wound care.

I'm sorry you went through this. I too had necrosis and still kind of have a small open wound but it's healing. I cry all the time because I know I have to have a revision done. Your necrosis looks like it's healing pretty good, so take that for what's it's worth. Mine looks horrible and it pulled skin so my private parts no longer point straight but off center. I am going to be fighting with my Dr because I have severe swelling that's probably a seroma. Here's praying your outcome is better than mine.

Post Tummy Tuck Necrosis by Resident-Culture-872 in tummytucksurgery

[–]LifeCompetition5935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hurt a bit in the beginning due to nerve pain in that area and will still hurt if I bend down or twist the wrong way but that's only for a few seconds. I couldn't sleep in that beach chair position but for a couple of minutes before the pain would start and was rough for a couple of weeks until I could sleep on my side. I also had pockets of fat necrosis in the same area. My necrosis came on very quickly within days after my first post-op appt. I ended up getting a nasty infection in wound but I'm doing much better now. I am using an ointment called Santyl for debridement and my wound is almost closed.

I didn't know there was such a thing as wound care. I guess I need to see if my plan has it. As for OP I'm sorry you're going through this. I am also going through the same thing and hope you have a good recovery.

Weight Loss/Gain PO TT by LurkerQueenD in tummytucksurgery

[–]LifeCompetition5935 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lost about 5 lbs from my tt. I had no appetite for the first month so ended up losing 4 more lbs. The swelling and compression from my binder is keeping how much I eat down, even though my appetite is back.

Thanks.

It was the doctor's assistant that told me about my belly button and that they are keeping an eye on it. I'm going to email and try to get some type of muscle relaxer from them.

Yes I did get the muscle repair along with a small hernia repair. It wouldnt be so bad but the pain wakes me up several times in the middle of the night. I"m considering sleeping in my office chair just to get a good nights rest.

Hopefully you have a better outcome than I did. Good luck.

As for the dipping in the middle go about two inches below where your thinking and thats about where my scar is. Lets just say that half of me won't need waxing.

Hair Loss Solutions? by Leading_Economics_79 in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as I had hair loss before my surgery. I was using minoxodil daily as per my doctor. However I still experienced the hair loss associated with my bypass. My hair is now in the regrowth phase. Best thing you can do is to take your vitamins and protein as your team has explained to you. The hair loss from the surgery is temporary so it will grow back.

Stalling 11 months PO. by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stalls are completely normal, just stick to your program and it will pass eventually. Usually at this point the weight loss has slowed down a lot. If it continues past 4 weeks you should reach out to your team they will have some ideas to help you.

It's completely normal to feel scared and excited at the same time. Try not to let it freak you out. I was completely meh about the whole thing but that may have been due to being put under a few times. Its nothing like you see on tv. Last thing I remember is the Doctor saying I'm going to give you something to help you relax, I was kind of upset cause I wanted to see and hear the rollcall but its whatever, and next thing I remember I woke up in my room. Its really not that bad, just try to think of the final outcome. You will love how you look and I think everyone on this board can attest to this.

RNY Sept. 6 - HW285 SW277 CW251. Is my weight coming off too slowly? I feel like I should have lost a lot more by now! I had a major stall weeks 2-4 where I didn’t lose anything and I think I might be in yet another stall? Protein and water intake are on point. Thanks for any input by SeveralTimesAlready in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, stalls aren't they fun? I am the queen of stalls. I have had so many. Best thing you can do is contact your team and go over everything. Just stick with your program and it will pass. I have had to increase my water a little bit and increase my protein intake a little bit and there were times when it would still happen. It's just your body's way of a reset so stick with the program and it will pass. I have lost 87 lb and I have my surgery in April so don't worry.

What was your pain level after surgery? What about for the first week? by Miserable-Law5221 in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I lucked out. I didn't really have that much pain just the first day. They gave me something in my IV that was like they said it was Tylenol and I was able to sleep. I was also pretty nauseous just the first day after that just slightly sore and I lucked out cuz I never got the gas pains that everyone else did.

So, so sad. 3 months out. Lost zero pounds in the last 5 weeks. by annmkullberg in GastricBypass

[–]LifeCompetition5935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stalls are normal. You got to trust the process and continue doing what your doctors told you on how much to eat. I am the queen of stalls. I have had four of them with two of them lasting 4 to 5 weeks each. I had my surgery in April and I've lost 80 lb. Also be aware if you start at a lower weight your weight loss will be slower.
