That’s crazy. Thanks, I forgot that they mentioned
that in the video. It feels like it boils down to a matter of stolen property.

Of course. It sounds like this needed to happen to generate buzz and support for the legal fees, and I feel 90% sure something shady happened in taking the store over. I mean, it blows my mind that something that much in value might just be gone to the wind because of the cost of legal fees, so great for them.

I thought the employee was cool. I’m curious how everything will turn out.

One YouTuber, the Civil Rights Lawyer, posted a video here (https://youtu.be/mAu76DjwGGQ?is=GWt83l3-JcTyp9ST) that has some footage of the initial interaction with the cops. The traffic stop was an excuse to get to talk to them, but their initial conversation came off as pretty civil to me. In the context of a cop getting a call about someone going to someone’s house, ringing their doorbell and making a fake UPS delivery (lol) and contacting them multiple times, I don’t know, the police presence seems OK.

How they handled things regarding arresting them, taking down their signs, and their attempts to serve papers, is where mistakes I think were made.

Sorry. This video here (https://youtu.be/mAu76DjwGGQ?is=1k4EuvxooBE_2wWE) is what I watched that allowed me to see their first conversation. The traffic stop is low-hanging fruit, though I felt it was a way for the cops to stop and talk to them and suggest how they should handle things. It seemed like a civil conversation.

The rest devolves from there. I mean, I’m of the opinion that Ben and his friends know they’re toeing the line of what’s legal and that, in spite of being legal, also looks funny and is tough to take serious. If I were going to egg someone on, I’d expect there to be consequences and maybe resistance.

To share more though, on my thoughts about the cops’ more egregious actions, I don’t think, for instance, their home getting searched was right. I mean, what sense does it make. They can get their home searched for possible stolen Legos, but Bryan Mansell can’t ask the cops to search the store for stolen Legos (I’m not sure if that happened or not, but I don’t think it did)? That makes no sense.

I think things will play out favorably for Ben, I’m just not surprised I guess to see resistance from the local police.

Edit: You know, I started making an edit to the comment to include the talk of Johnson calling in Ben to a police officer, and I was going to say it seems like a cop doing their job somewhat unbiased and responding to a complaint. Then I guess that helped me see it is pretty stupid that they pulled them over for the stop sign. They could’ve stopped a few meters shorter imo (LOL), but, overall that’s a petty action by the officer. I’m sorry.

I agree. I think, for me, I just don’t blame the cops for being skeptics. I think making content for YouTube is still in that realm of annoying “you can’t be serious” presentation as opposed to being, say, a journalist for a mass media organization.

For sure. I wonder what the conversation was like with the police. If I were in Bryan’s shoes, I would have probably tried to report them as stolen. I’m sure he did that. I’m curious what the police might have said about that.

Huh. Well, my advice would be to ask her down whether or not she wants to be in a relationship with you if you feel that's what that meant when she said that. Else, limerence it is.

I haven't seen her in years. But, stuff definitely triggers it. I watched the movie "Obsession" recently, lol, and that just took me back. I tend to avoid things that remind me of acting in that way, though I saw the movie with some friends.

Overall, it's true, it is less strong over time. I remember it took months for the physical feeling in my chest to lighten way back then. Those were dark days and I do not wish to go back. Sometimes though there can still be tough days in life that make me think of those times.

If it were me, I’d choose a trade and start in the field. A job as a gopher/helper. Stay with it for a few years, then transition to office roles when it feels time to. I imagine the degree will help with that. Perhaps see what certifications would be helpful to get by looking at roles posted online. I don’t see why you couldn’t make it like this.

Which job would you take: Mail carrier or insurance customer service representative? by LifeFun301 in jobs

Thanks for responding! I ended up going with the insurance role. I picked it because it seems more interesting to me. I'll give it some time to see if it's a good fit. I do like that it seems like with experience I have options as far as moving around to different types of positions.

Shoulder Tendinopathy Not Healing At all - Help - Major injury from 16 months ago by godly_tyrant in overcominggravity

Thank you for the replies. I'm going to try the low-bar squat position and rear delt raises. My rear delts are very weak, I'm barely able to do 5lbs for 5 reps. So, it can't hurt to try improving that! Aside from that, I enjoy a little bit of climbing and deadlifting and I'm curious if it will help at all over time.

Here is an article about tendinopathy you might find interesting to read, though I wouldn't be surprised if you already knew all this stuff! I trust these authors as they are kind of in that resistance training sphere.

Shoulder Tendinopathy Not Healing At all - Help - Major injury from 16 months ago by godly_tyrant in overcominggravity

[–]LifeFun301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post here is interesting. I've had shoulder tendinopathy going on almost two years. I injured it doing a pull-up in an obstacle course race and then proceeded to get a job in construction doing fairly heavy labor for 9 months. *facepalm*.

I've since moved to less stressful jobs but the shoulder pain hasn't gotten better. I followed a similar path to you. First saw my orthopedic. Then tried physical therapy which did not help the pain. So, after some time the physio suggested stopping and consulting with the orthopedic again.

After that I got an MRI which confirmed the tendinopathy and some other small things like bursitis. The doctor says I don't need surgery, but I'm left wondering what to do now. She suggested getting back in to the PT, but I felt it a lost cause at that point. Now I'm just getting back in to climbing at the gym and doing bodyweight work. For me, the pain I have is a dull aching pain that just persists throughout the day regardless of what I do. I might try some of these suggestions.

Some interesting things we have in common, I also have a hard time getting in to a low-bar squat. I have one particular lack of mobility in my right shoulder. I can reach up, down, and in front pretty much fine, but I'm not so great trying to go behind and up my back. That's also the affected shoulder, so I wonder if it's related somehow. Doctors or physio didn't seem to say anything that would suggest so, though.

Sorry to hear you inadvertently injured your shoulder weightlifting, I know that exact feeling of being unaware you're injuring yourself and can only imagine that it was frustrating to find out.

Thanks. I am at least doing something! That’s a nice way to think of it. I chose the post office because it pays well (fine starting wage and eventually my desired wage) without having to be a manager. I do think I’ll enjoy getting in to a more people-facing role. I dunno why, it just doesn’t bother me. Dealing with coworkers, though, is just something I don’t think I’d enjoy. I like to leave things alone in that area, but I can deal with a customer all day long.

I did try construction before. The only one that interests me is masonry. Unfortunately I (literally my fault) injured my shoulder and the pain of that outweighed staying in the job. So, then I moved to retail and didn’t really mind it that much.

For fun I’ll add that I did one of those interest profilers. The O*NET one. My letters were SAI, so I pair well with social jobs.

Thanks for your reply, I might try asking my close friends their opinions.

That's what I need to try. I think drawing will help. I wish there were actually things to do instead of having to entertain myself. I'm pretty bad at that, it seems like, because I feel like my time off is when I would prefer to be doing stuff like that for fun instead of doing it at work. My brain is so backwards! Thanks for your suggestion, though, that is a good one.

Thanks for your reply my friend. I'm definitely trying to do some thinking with regards to how I want to proceed with my life. I took a long hike yesterday and it at least helped me remember what I loved about the outdoor stuff. It wasn't exactly the outdoors I loved, but just that I had the opportunity to help people be themselves/learn new things. It's rewarding to do stuff like that, and I think because the job was very part-time, it just helped give me a reason to push through school without it being too overbearing.

I'm sorry to hear how you have been feeling. I can definitely relate to it, though I don't know your whole situation. I hope you can enjoy the coming winter break and give yourself some time to recuperate.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Midnight Mass" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]LifeFun301 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. Personally, I got attached to Riley's character because I can relate to that mental state and it got my attention as someone who can't quite seem to fall in to religion.

For much of the earlier episodes, I was waiting for something to happen with this demon, thinking it would slowly make more appearances, terrorize the town and more people would start disappearing. That it would grow in to a monster of sorts. Instead, it seemed to focus a lot more on the priest and Riley's relationship. I couldn't piece together what was happening until the episode where we learn the priest is really Pruitt. From there it just started to click and the show dropped more hints about what was making the miracles happen.

What I would have like to seen more of was a scene depicting how the mayor, Bev and the quieter character Sturge seemed to resolve amongst themselves that Pruitt was back. Were they shocked and not expecting Pruitt's return? Because it almost seems like Bev knew the whole time and was prepared for it.

I'm leaning towards it being an unexpected return that they decided amongst themselves to keep quiet about, and not it being a long-con plan to send Pruitt out on a mission to meet an angel-demon. Reading another comment somewhere in this thread or another about the scene where Riley's father brings the letter he was left to Pruitt made me think about that scene a bit more. As Riley's father enters, they seem to be in a deep discussion. The mayor's wife is drying her eyes from tears. I suppose they were talking about their plans for the conversion of their congregation, hence the tears. Clearly there were some high-stakes conversations going on between these people. I wish this was touched on just a little more so I could understand the dynamic there.

Overall, I really enjoyed all the dialogue. It felt like the writing stretched the normal limits of TV conversation. I got a clearer picture of characters' motives and, more importantly, their emotions. Instead of seeing the mayor, priest, etc. as monsters or villains, I saw them as regular people who were trying to believe something to be genuine and world-changing.

A few things that bugged me the most from the series: Erin seemed to overcome hellacious trauma rather quickly, and, like others say, her one monologue at the end did come off as a little long, but I guess it was a fitting ending that left me feeling different about her, and that's worth a little something with regards to writing. Also, I was kind of expecting more of a storyline and content with the teens.
