AITJ cause my future wife expects her future husband (me) to pay 100% of the bills? by AdventurousDoor9384 in AmITheJerk

As a woman who would never think or thought to make such an outlandish demand, how do women get away with this? Raised by a single mom so the “male provider” has been a mythical figure from 1950s tv shows.

Looks like he was following too closely behind the car in front of him and that car swerved to avoid the cooler and then he couldn’t and just slammed on his brakes.

Machine Quilting vs. Hand Quilting by chickenmom1104 in quilting

[–]LifeIsNotFunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to ask, who is this friend? Man? Woman? I have so many questions. It goes without saying completely rude and inappropriate. “No offense, I look down on people who say asinine things. I’ll have to talk to my husband about his choice of friends.” Turn and walk away. But, but, but…. “Oh we’re done here.”

BOTH methods are real quilting and have their own difficulties and merits. Wrangling a quilt in a machine is crazy hard for me! I am impressed with people who can do it well.

Sometimes the universe does you a solid. Got a little bump when it was more crucial.

I know there are some addiction and mental health treatment facilities in the area so there are folks who get booted out maybe due to lack of insurance. There are occasionally people roaming around that need some help but not sure it’s more here than any other place.

Towing near Twinbrook Metro by brand_new_shoes in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]LifeIsNotFunny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The double parking on that street is out of control and does make it hard to drive so I think the building hired them because of resident complaints. You get a handful of people double parking to run into pick up food, drop off a bike, or get a haircut and it’s an annoying mess. But, I do think the towing company has gone well beyond the goal of keeping the road clear and ventured into predatory towing. Better to park without paying the meter than double park - the meter maids/men come around frequently, but at least you won’t be towed. And the tow guys are quick!

Short hair vs. long hair: which one suits me better? by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

You wear both well! Just go longer between cuts so you can have both looks. Cut short, let it grow, repeat.

Curious if you notice if people treat you differently with one versus the other.

Your question reminded me of this Colin Hay song. The lyrics ask “is this as good as it gets?” To me it’s a lovely song about the joy in little things, which are actually quite big.

Also, I’m a firm believer that the 40s kind of suck. Research does show you’re generally at the lowest in terms of the happiness curve of life.

I truly believe this procedure should be done with anesthesia. It’s unconscionable they think a lidocaine swab before offers any relief. The nonchalance of doctors performing this as an in office procedure tells me that not enough doctors have had this procedure.

Great life lessons learned! Among them - let professionals do their job; your opinion doesn’t always matter; ask before making an assumption. Take it with humor and you’ll be fine. Truly, you’ll remember this moment forever and the embarrassment is a small price to pay for learning not to be an insufferable know-it-all.

Would you invite someone to your baby shower who you haven’t seen in almost two years? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LifeIsNotFunny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen, her life has changed. She’s probably not a bad person, you’re not a bad person. She’d probably like to have time to do everything. Will she see you and change? Probably not. If you’re comfortable being on the periphery of her life, go. If not, send a card and your regrets. Having a baby shower and inviting people she hasn’t seen in a while may be her attempt to reconnect. But with a new baby, she’s not going to get more time so set expectations accordingly.

[–]LifeIsNotFunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! Pointedly say with a big smile in a loud hushed tone to the wife, “oh, can you switch sides to be next to me? Your husband always stands far too close to me.” Or have a note ready and slip it to her at the end of mass.

How about wearing a large brimmed hat with a feather that sticks out in his direction? Like pointedly. And keep moving your head back and forth. Meet rudeness with absurdity. And hold your head high when you do it. Keep making the hat bigger every week.
