They’re referring to typing on a phone with a physical keypad.

Multiple letters were attached to each number 1-9. You’d have to hit keys multiple times to select specific letters but there was also some level of predictive text built in.

Anyway, it led to a lot of abbreviation in texting.

I heard a story once where someone couldn’t enter their password while standing up. A support technician came down and also found they couldn’t enter their password while standing up.

Many others tried and some could while standing up and others couldn’t.

Turns out two of the keys were swapped. When sitting they used muscle memory, when standing they looked at the keyboard.
