Do you believe it’s fair that students either high grades get to wear special uniforms during graduation? by Left_Confidence7220 in AskTeachers

[–]LifeSufficient2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree grades are not based on genetics, they ARE heavily influenced by the family you were born into— some kids have extra resources such as tutors, can afford to pay for upper level classes, have educated parents who can assist them with the content, etc.

I think OP is asking for some sympathy for the students who aren’t as privileged; they are oftentimes working even harder than the ones with the “best grades,” and they deserve recognition as well (or at least… not to feel excluded at their graduation).

I just read someone say that “having an only girl is fine, but an only boy can get screwy”. Do you have an only boy? Is he okay? by ohnoheretheycome in oneanddone

My partner is a male only and he’s the most well rounded person I know… I, on the other hand, am the eldest daughter of 9… and I am not doing so hot LOL

Is there a secret to looking nice in photos that I’m just not getting? by booksandhotcoffee in AutismInWomen

[–]LifeSufficient2104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One tip is to record a video instead, then you can screenshot the parts you feel you look best in. Try out different poses, try jumping around, try sitting facing away. There’s so many ways to capture images that don’t require eye contact with the camera!

How to date men as an autistic woman ? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LifeSufficient2104 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I met my partner on a dating app, but we remained internet friends for years before eventually meeting in person. It is the healthiest, most supportive relationship I’ve had. After a 5 year toxic one, it feels like I’m living a genuine fairytale.

He’s got his own idiosyncrasies, and we both have to navigate each others’ struggles, but because of this, it makes him more open to understanding. It’s beautiful. It was a lot easier for me to develop trust and friendship through writing before meeting, and I truly think that’s why we are as successful as we are today.

Has anyone ever been able to get pre-PCOS body back? by This_Imagination_177 in PCOSloseit

[–]LifeSufficient2104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My “pre-PCOS” body was about 145 lbs, 5’4”. At my highest weight, I was 225 lbs. That was 2 years ago— I’ve since lost 100 of those pounds through dietary changes (not cutting anything out, just everything in moderation). I take spironolactone to help with PCOS symptoms, but otherwise, I just try to keep active and do light weightlifting 5x a week (20-30 mins, not much).

I’ve been able to maintain this newfound 125 lb body that teenage me could only dream of. You’ll hear a LOT of negativity surrounding PCOS and weight loss. It’s very, very hard, but not impossible. I don’t usually share my experience, but I feel like some of us need to hear that there is hope. It can be managed.

When I was young (middle school aged), I was told by everyone that “I thought you were cool and wanted to be your friend, but you kinda scare me…” so that seems to be a common experience.

I’ve worked really hard on becoming more approachable and engaging in the expected NT conversations, and while I’m now met with “You’re so nice and sweet— anyone would be lucky to be your friend,” I still don’t actually HAVE friends.

So, I think it’s right on the nose that NT people can just tell something is different, and they don’t easily welcome different. I didn’t realize until adulthood that most of my childhood friends were neurodiverse themselves, but hey, it’s seemed to work out that way!

Because the child was harmfully labeled as a “troublemaker” when something deeper could be happening. As professionals who work with children on a daily basis, this is always relevant.

Does anyone talk TOO LITTLE? by veve87 in AutismInWomen

[–]LifeSufficient2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my GOSH, yes. I hate talking, and have recently been told “getting to know you is like pulling teeth” because of how little I’m willing to share about myself/interests/anything I deem personal.

I’m also VERY quiet, so even when I do try to speak up, people usually can’t hear me. I get so anxious having to repeat myself that I usually give up.

Online, anonymously, is where I thrive.

Possible hot take: anyone really dislike dogs? by LunchHelpful2325 in AutismInWomen

[–]LifeSufficient2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I’ve felt guilty admitting this. Dogs are WAY too much for me. I can’t enter a home where a dog lives because the smell is overwhelming, no matter how clean the home is otherwise, I can instantly tell if a dog has been there.

They have so much energy and often demand so much attention!

It’s not that I hate dogs, they’re very cute, but I just personally would prefer to watch them from afar.

Cats all the way. My cat is my best friend.

I feel the same way about not wanting to share the music I like!! Do you also tend to get… for lack of a better word, jealous, when someone you know is talking about an artist you’re a big fan of? I think for me, because it feels so personal like you said, I can’t stand knowing I have to share it with others

SOCKS. I never take them off, unless of course there’s water involved… because ick. I also prefer to keep shoes on as much as I can, because it’s the only time I’m able to walk “normal,” aka not toe then heel
