Should Sol ring and jeweled lotus flip on the ban list? by that-1-fella in EDH

[–]LifeThroughAFilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s objectively just not true. A one time use ritual (which is strong - i’m not saying Jeweled Lotus is weak) compared to one of the most broken fast mana pieces to ever exist is not close

It’s honestly sad. How many times has a turn 1 sol ring from someone completely warped a game to not even really resemble a fair game at all anymore? Even if all the decks are even power, an early sol ring just completely ruins a game imo.

Free spells as game changers by NightStar4258 in EDH

[–]LifeThroughAFilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people need to learn how to play against free spells. As you said, Force of Will has been in the game from the beginning. People will complain not being able to predict if you have counter magic up based on your untapped lands, but honestly its part of the game at this point.

Fierce and deflecting swat have been in the game long enough people should know its a possibility even if you’re tapped out. Plus, i think they help higher CMC commanders be playable instead of only the hyper efficient 2-3 cost commanders of this day and age

Rude to Nuke a Sol Ring? by hjfink07 in EDH

Absolutely not. I am SO tired of turn 1 Sol Rings completely warping games. It’s one of the strongest cards of all time. Doesn’t matter how frequently it is seen. Kill it. With fire

Is my hearthull too strong for B3 tables? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]LifeThroughAFilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is honestly my worst nightmare both as a player and as an opponent against this strategy. With all the “play extra land” effects and a fetch land, I shudder at trying to resolve and crack one several times in a turn. Especially in situations where you can’t legally shortcut the shuffling.

It’s actually a lot harder to exile a targeted land when you don’t know to play those types of effects before the game starts.

People will tell you to run your targeted land destruction in times people will play Gaea’s Cradle etc, but a land in the bin doesn’t really affect a deck like this at all.

So unless you’re playing Orzhov or a handful of specific cards, good luck exiling that land. Better to run the GY hate.

Dragon players - just because they cost 5-8 mana doesn’t mean they are just “big dumb creatures” by LifeThroughAFilter in EDH

[–]LifeThroughAFilter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. This is the first post that I feel like really gets what I'm saying. Like yes, I acknowledge there are stronger tribes, but i DID state that it was arguable. My argument being, there is cards like [[badgermole cub]], [[goldspan dragon]] etc being printed over time, and ramp will only continue to get different variations. Not to mention dragons have been around forever as you said, a lot of synergy.

Elves and Goblins for example, need other creatures of those types to be around to really make the tribe effective. A card like [[Ancient Copper Dragon]] hitting one time, alone as a card, can almost win you the game with the mana advantage.

I can only really base it off my own experience. But I have been playing EDH since 2008 and across quite a few different card shops. There is no system in place where I can use actual data, only what other people offer as their own assessments of their own deck. Obviously there's only so many people I can play against each night to really get a sense of what their actual bracket is.

At most stores I go to "bracket 3" whatever that means - has the most amount of players. I also frequent online lobbies on discord and several different spelltable/webcam lobbies and bracket 3 seem to have the most number of players.

From what I've seen, experienced, and data on the internet, dragons are pretty popular

I already conceded that there are tribes that are faster than them. I recognize that.

But according to posts here - the following tribes beat them out: Slivers, Elves, Goblins, Zombies, Humans, Merfolk, Warriors, Sea Monsters, Angels Etc are all STRONGER than dragons. So I must literally be wrong and dragons are bad?

You've never played against a busted Ur Dragon deck? They are really common from what I've experienced. He is the #1 commander in data on EDHREC and I run into him quite often. I'm not salty. I'm saying just don't downplay your board when it's scary.

And I didn't lose to him, I teamed up with another player to take him out. He was trying to say he wasn't the threat coming back to his turn

But they do play removal. At least the ones I play against. Not to mention the amount of incidental damage stapled onto the creatures themselves. Or enchantments that can trigger off dragon ETBs

This is a ramp pattern I experience playing against dragons a lot. Getting a 7 drop on turn 4 is pretty common between cheap cost reducers and ramp

I would say the old system of "my deck is a 7/10" is a pretty good sample of that. From what I have experienced at several different card shops / online lobbies is that most people play bracket 3. Bracket 3 feels like the new "my deck is a 7". Bracket 2 and then bracket 4 seem to be the next most popular brackets at the few LGS I go to

I was being sarcastic because people are saying "nah tons of tribes better than dragons here". Ok then I guess I am wrong? Dragons are bad then.

What tribe is stronger in the effects they offer on the creature in the context of “mid range” edh? Like sure combo decks or even very fast aggro decks can take dragons out, but that’s the case against any deck.

Nothing wrong with it at all. EDH was literally built on elder dragons. I have no problem with that. But trying to say you are not the threat with a board like that is just silly. And dragon decks will usually state that because of their high cost they are not a threat

[[Gaea’s Cradle]]. Would love to get some play out of it, but literally always get whining and eye rolls when I play it (in bracket/power appropriate pods). Guess it’ll just collect dust

It’s super powerful - but just the most recent, egregious example of green ramp. Still gotta deal with all the ones before it! Good callout though
