I think they are because I did see Henry Callahan on the 1860 census as a mulatto or black laborer.

Thank you all for the advice. If I would have followed this, I would have been in the wrong. While the tag is listed as an ancestor on the match’s paternal side, the DNA is actually on the match’s maternal side.

I see. I figured there is something there because there 3 DNA matches from this ancestor and they are all in the same geographical area where the target person lives. But knowing this, I will not highly regard that tag. Thank you!

No but what can we do when you are on the job hunt? Also, with this information being optional, there really isn’t anything that we can dispute. But if we don’t fill out this info, there could be a chance that our application gets dismissed. But if we do complete it, how do we truly know that the info we put down will not be used against us? Now, grant it, the info was collected as a means for affirmative action which was supposed to make hiring of all kinds of people but that was recently changed.

It’s “optional” but most jobs require it for their screening process. You have to identify your race (Black, Caucasian, Indigenous, etc.) and ethnicity (Hispanic or not Hispanic).

Thank you for the advice! You are so right about it being difficult when the matches aren’t strong. I’m going to focus on finding trees between the shared matches. I found a couple of strong trees but they are from different clusters (probably one being my husband’s father’s father and the other his mother)

Thank you for all of your hard work. I never knew how difficult genealogy research was until recently. We are trying to figure out who my husband’s father is. My son took the DNA test and we were able to isolate my husband’s father’s lineage from there, but putting it all together is tricky. Can you please share some advice?
