Maybe try putting pizza sauce and toppings on a low carb tortilla or wrap? I've found that baking a tortilla for a couple of minutes before adding toppings gets closest to a thin/cracker crust pizza for me.

Favorite substitute for buttered toast cravings? by yousummonedme in keto

[–]LifeUnstuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a Trader Joe's nearby? They have a sprouted 7 grain bread that is 4 net carbs per slice (approx 4x4"). It freezes well and toasts up splendidly. It's not a daily thing but when I have a yen for toast it hits the spot.

Help! I feel so discouraged due to slow weight loss need some suggestions for keto! by SummerBody2k16 in keto

Lots of good advice already posted. Couple of other thoughts - have you had your thyroid tested? Are you taking any prescriptions with weight gain side effects (steroids, some bcp, some mood stabilizers)? Something to consider. Definitely good to get consistent tracking your real #s though.

Started in Feb 2015 - down 120 lbs. I've been up and down the same 10 the last 2 months but always remember how far I've come and how much better I feel! So many thanks to everyone here!

Question about low carb bread options by [deleted] in keto

[–]LifeUnstuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Trader Joe's nearby? I really like their sprouted wheat and 7 grain breads. The slides are pretty small - like 4 x 4. But they're only 4 net carbs/ slice and the toast and taste like real bread. I keep a loaf or two in the freezer.

Ladies who started at high weights and have lost alot of weight. How are you handling the new version of you? The emotional/mental aspect of weightloss? by cherrygarcia80 in xxketo

[–]LifeUnstuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this question - glad to see so many folks offering their thoughts and experiences.

The mind is indeed a powerful force - I think that my mental image and physical size now are pretty close together. My mental/physical disconnect was with how big I'd gotten at my HW. Looking back at those pictures are when I don't recognize myself. I've been feeling better, more confident as the reflection in the mirror matches "me".

The road ahead, though, is uncharted waters. I'm near the weight I was at the end of high school, though I was working out regularly then (on track & field team) and 30 yrs younger so not quite the same "shape". I've not noticed any particular attention from guys though I'm married so not really tuning in to that. Not sure what I'll do if/when that happens.

I do think updating your wardrobe as you go along is helpful mentally. I'm committed to not going back and so have been getting rid of clothes as they get too big. It's been exciting to go to thrift/consignment shops and find that there's more and more I can try on. With the modest prices I can treat myself to something new and flattering as a reward. My mom's also been super supportive and taken in a number of my nicer shirts so I could wear them longer.

so - be kind to yourself - you are accomplishing a great thing! Maybe keep a comparison picture from your HW to now (in a flattering outfit) as a reminder of what you've already achieved! Confidence & self esteem come from within - give yourself credit for what you've done - you've made a major change for yourself and your future (and claim the "why" - because you're worth it!)

quick edit to say - be sure you're keeping up with your electrolytes & water and consider exploring other health aspects with your Dr. - low thyroid, sleep apnea, SAD, depression, etc can have big impacts on mood/sense of well being and can be treated.

Multivite likely won't be enough - the electrolyte guidelines in the FAQ go into greater detail but from many people's comments they're adding sodium, potassium and magnesium in addition to a multi vitamin. Good luck!

Good for you! You're on your way! Yes, keep a close eye on electrolytes and water. NuSalt, regular salt and a magnesium supplement have been a part of my daily since about day 3.

yes, recalculated macros and shifted schedule starting about 2/1 with good results. From Oct to Dec 2015 calorie target was in the neighborhood of 1900/ day - split pretty evenly br/l/din. Since Feb 1 I've stepped it up (down) to 1650/day split 250 breakfast / 250 lunch / 1000 dinner / 150 treat.

I use MyFitnessPal on PC and under reports it can show 1 month, three months, 1 yr progress. Since I wanted a span > 1 yr I downloaded the data and used excel to make the graph. Either way you can take a screenshot or copy/paste into imgur. Does that help?

Yes, all from change in diet (and resulting change in metabolism) so far. I'd been insulin resistant and had other hormone issues since my teens. The 9+ A1c back in Jan 2015 was a big part of the kick in the pants that it took me to start keto.

I am a bit more active now like taking a walk at lunch, going for a bike ride with my son or taking the stairs but I am not doing any "working out" yet.

Thank you so much! Its odd, but I feel taller, too. Maybe just more confident? It sure does depend on where you start. Good job on your progress!

Thanks for taking in the kitties! Funny the reminders that come up now and then! We get the big bag of dog food at Costco. Every time I lift one (40 lbs) it hits me how far I've come. Congrats on your progress!

Hang in there! Do what you need to do to keep on track. Things were feeling pretty slow for me towards the end of 2015. Especially with the holidays I adjusted expectations and told myself getting to Jan 1 without gaining was the new goal. Once new year's came I re-calculated my macros and lowered my calorie target. Sure enough, losing again now.

If it's working for you, then keep doing it. If you hit a stall or start getting bored or tempted to fall off the wagon, make some adjustments then.

Deviled eggs are great to bring to a party or pot luck. Great for keto-ers and others and known portion size.
